I am thinking about being a Pharmacist and I was wondering.....?PLEASE HELP!?We Answered:
1. Depends on if you work in a retail pharmacy (CVS) or hospital setting. But you have to verify prescriptions, make sure you're dispensing the correct medication, counsel patients, make sure pharm techs are doing their job correctly, compound (mix) some medications, order medicine. That's just some of the duties.2. Again it depends on where you work, but the retail pharmacy works with customers ALOT. Computers are very important too.
3. Salary ranges from 65K to over 100K depending on experience and position.
4. Not sure about benefits. Again, it's about the employer. Retail pays more and may have mnore benefits.
5. You need to complete undergraduate studies that are very heavy into chemistry and biochemistry. No Bachelor degree is necessary, but you have to be accepted into an accredited pharmacy school program in which you will recieve a doctoral degree in pharmacy.
6. With others. To what extent depends on the job.
7. Most pharmacists work day hours, but they can be long and you're on your feet ALOT. You can also work overnight and weekends probably for extra money, but your schedule depends on what you and your employer work out. Pharmacists are in high demand, so they're going to want you to work alot.
8. Most of the work is very routine. Some customers/patients could give you a challenge, or you could have trouble reading a script. Otherwise it's the same things everyday.
9. Advancement depends on what you want. Do you want to be a manager? Supervisor? Just depends on the job. I'm not sure about what schooling you could do after getting the pharmD, but pharmacists are expected to keep up on their continuing education.
Hope this helps!

I am thinking about being a Pharmacist and I was wondering.....?We Answered:
1. The central activity is to prepare and dispense prescription medicines that have been prescribed by a doctor and to give advice on over-the-counter medicine2. It's a combination of all three, and will also depend on if you're working in a hospital (most data and things) or in a big pharmacy (all three) or a small on (lots more working with people.
3. Pharmacists can start from $70 000 to over $90 000 after 5+ years
4. Your benefits will depend on what kind of pharmacy or organization you work for - in a hospital, for a large national chain, owning your own pharmacy
5. You'll need a degree. You could also start by training to be a pharmacy technician and then gain work experience
5. Again, it depends on where you work. In a hospital you'd have much more varied hours but in a store you'll work more regular working hours.
6. Depends on the size of the pharmacy, but generally you'd be working with others (other pharmacists or technicians, as well as the all your customers)
7. This would depend on where you work, and how senior you are. As a pharamacy technician in a local pharmacy you would probably work around 40 hours Mon-Sat in store opening times
8. There will be a bit of variance, as every customer will have different needs, mixing different drugs, understanding new drugs that are constantly coming out, offering alternatives
9. There are lots of oppurtunities for advancement, and it would depend on if you want more business responsiblity or more seniority, or to work in educating other pharmacists.
