If you have not already looked at the Occupational Outlook Handbook (see source below), then I recommend you do. It provides a good overview of the career and I think it will reenforce your impressions of the career.

If you have not worked in a Pharmacy and you not in school this summer, you should consider getting a summer job as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy aide.

Pharmasists are essentially low level doctors that specialize in medications. They usually know more about the medicine than normal doctors and keep up on all the new meds.

Typically at a pharmacy there is one real pharmasist and a bunch of helpers (like a doctors office with nurses and PAs). So there are not as many high paid jobs as you might think

Job prospects for this field are excellent, the aging population all over the world and continued reliance on drugs means lots of future jobs. The compotition in this area is intense though, lots of overseas workers coming to US to fill these jobs, and they are top knotch people

Hours are weird as well, they are all open from early morn to late night and always on weekends, so is not a typical 9-5


As far as what to take in school

HS - as much college prep stuff as possible to get you into school. Chem, math, english typing, general science

college - there are schools that have pharmacy degrees, they are pretty intense but do-able doctor like programs. Go to the best one you can afford and keep up. Expect lots of memorization of drugs and developing people skills to deal with patients

If I had to do my career over again I'd contemplate pharmacy, I would be concerned that it might get a little monotonous though.

well, for one thing when you work in a public place like that, you're kinda expected to be friendly to people. Sometime you have to nice to people you DON'T like. :)
