Pharmacy Aide Jobs

Theresa Said:

Volunteering at a local hospital?? Positions?

We Answered:

Pharmacy- You'd work with the pharmacists. I don't know how much you'd be allowed to do. It might be paper work, you might deliver the meds to certain areas, they might allow you to prepare certain meds, etc.

Unit Aide- You would work for specific unit in the hospital: med/surg, obstetrics, etc. You could be working at an info desk, sign-in desk, might wheel patients here and there, etc.

Sterilization Department- You would be sterilizing health instruments, preparing tools, etc.

Emergency Department- Probably desk work in the ER

How do I improve my app to become a Pharm Tech?

We Answered:

In Texas in order to be a pharmacy tech, you need to register with the State Board as a pharmacy technician-intraining and earn PTCB certification. So it looks like you are going to have to get your PTCB certification before you can be a pharmacy tech. To do this, you have to take the certification exam. And if you failed your high school test, then I would suggest getting training first. There are some online training courses you can take for pharmacy tech. That is a resume builder and it will also give you the knowledge needed to pass the certification exam. It will obviously cost you some money but you will be more qualified. That is probably why you are not currently getting any calls. If you do decide to get the training first, there are online options out there that allow you to work on it in your free time which allows you to complete as fast as you need to. You can expect to complete an online course in about 2-3 months working on it full time. If you want, there is a demo of an online course that you can take so you can see what material is covered as well as what it would be like taking a course. That way you can decide if this would be right for you before you enroll. The demo is at http://careerstep.com/demo/?uid=ref11431

I know you were hoping you could work while you were getting your certification but looks like Texas is not going to allow you to. Good luck!

anyone a pharmacy technician?

We Answered:

Your schedule will vary greatly from place to place. Hospitals are open 24/7 so there will be more night shifts, weekends, and holidays if you are low on the totem pole.

I LOVE my job! However, I would really suggest working in hospital pharmacy simply because in retail you basically count pills all day. I have worked in both and love hospital. If I had to say anything negative about it, it would be that doctors and nurses tend to belittle and get short with us because some think they are a little above us because of their degrees. But you learn to get over that.

About certification, I would really advise that you not buy books and study for the test. Anyone can get a job in a pharmacy as a tech (again, I would advise hospital) and work for a few months and take the test, I feel very sure that you will pass.

One can make a pretty good career from being a pharmacy tech. I would highly recommend it, I love my job! Good luck!!!

What kind of job can I get if I want to become a physical therapist?

We Answered:

Yes, you can become a physical therapy technician/aide. It doesn't pay a whole lot, but it will count towards your observation hours that are required to get IN to the program and you'll get some exposure to the clinic. Job responsiblities will vary between clerical and light housekeeping to assisting the therapists.

No formal experience is required.

which will yield more job opportunities?

We Answered:

I'm not sure a specific answer to your question, but I'd seriously be surprised if any of those professionals would have a problem finding a job. Healthcare is one of the only industries that will never be automated, and will always be in demand. I know that in my area (east TN) there is a high demand for nurses.

Should I major in Business Finance or Pharmacy?

We Answered:

Well if your good at both majors, which lifestyle do you like more? Pharmacists have very Flexible and easy hours. Business can be a lot more stressful and your job is not always certain if your in business....look at the thousands and thousands of jobs being lost in businesses now-a-days. You never hear of pharmacists being layed off ya know? But dont do something just for the money, I know that is hard not to consider, but you will end up miserable in the end. Good luck!
