Pharmacy Assistant Careers

Marlene Said:

going to school for a medical assistant or pharmacy tech?

We Answered:

If both has the same core curriculum do both. When you complete the medical assistance program, continue on complete the pharmacy tech program. Otherwise,
if you're a people person who doesn't mind patient contact, such as touching patients, the medical assistant program will be good. This can lead to unit secretary in hospitals, and working in doctors office. However, if you're like me who doesn't want to have patient contact, pharmacy tech is a better choice.

Virgil Said:

should i chose medical assistant or pharmacy tech?

We Answered:

It is hard to say, because both of them have assets towards the career goal of becoming a physician assistant.

Medical Assistants do primarily administrative work, and they work with the back office with lab tests such as urine and pregnancy tests, and they also help with some minor surgeries etc.

Pharmacy Technicians help with the functioning of the pharmacy. They are responsible for helping fill the prescriptions, and then education of patients, where medications are familiar to the patient.

In my humble opinion, I believe that the medical assistant would be more direct towards your goal as a physician assistant.
