Pharmacy Certification Exam

Darren Said:

Was the pharmacy technician certification exam difficult?

We Answered:

The exam is difficult but fair./

Yolanda Said:

How many questions are on the pharmacy technician certification exam?

We Answered:

I'm not sure which certification exam you are taking, so I'll just talk about both. The PTCB exam has 80 multiple choice questions and 10 pretest questions. If you are taking the ExCPT, that exam has 100 multiple choice questions and 10 pretest questions.

Section 2 of the PTCB exam deals with pharmaceuticals and medications, and that takes up 22% of the exam, according to the PTCB. On the ExCPT, medications is about 23% of the exam. I wish I could, but I can't tell you how many of the 200 most common medications are on the exam because it varies depending on which version you take. But there are a lot of resources out there to help you study the 200 most common medications, and both the PTCB and ICPT offer test takers practice exams as well as other study materials.

I also work for a pharmacy technician organization, the National Pharmacy Technician Association. We have exam study materials on sale for pharmacy technicians including a study pack including two exam prep books, math study aids, and a practice exam.

I've cited the places where you can get more information below. Don't worry. If you study well enough, I'm sure you'll have no problem, and if you'd like to learn more about our organization, I've cited that too. Best of luck on your certification exam!

Melissa Said:

How or where do i take the PTCE exam (pharmacy tech certification exam)?

We Answered:

This is the PTCB website, and it should give you all the registration information. It is a computerized exam, and so, it is given often. There is only one requirement to take the exam, and that is high school diploma or GED certificate.
