Bernard Said:

What does a pharmacia tech do on their job?

We Answered:

Pharmacy technicians are becoming more and more important in the practice of pharmacy, especially in retail settings (Walgreen's, CVS). Requirements vary per state laws, but there is a national exam that can be taken (PTCB) which will help to learn the basic requirements of a tech.

Some responsibilities of a tech include interpreting and entering data on prescriptions, counting and filling the medication, calling doctor's offices for refill approval, resolving insurance issues, and completing cash register transactions. Advanced tech may also participate in compounding prescriptions and IV admixtures. Techs also participate in the business of a pharmacy, including inventory control and doctor detailing calls.

Applied for a job at Boots Pharmacy?

We Answered:

Remember this time is difficult for hiring, so I would say that 2 weeks is not that long a wait. The trainee dispenser is an ok job but you are going to want to turn that into something else like a pharmacy tech job, or even something a little higher. The pay is ok, but nothing that is going to break the bank with. I would think the job may be a little less hectic than the health care assistance that you are currently working in. So maybe the pay and the different type of work will not be too much of a trade off.
