Pharmacy Tech Job

Francisco Said:

What should I expect from a pharmacy tech job at Kroger?

We Answered:

I have a friend who works as a pt at a local Kroger and she makes $9/hr (she is only has her state license and not a CPhT). You will need to be licensed depending on the laws of your state's board of pharmacy. You will definately have the upper hand when you attend medical school. You will ace pharmacology!

Duties: stock medications on shelf, assist pharmacist dispense medication, take up and ring up prescriptions, answer the telephone, inventory assistance. Remember, you cannot give any advice whatsoever to customers/patients regarding medicine. You have to refer the customer/patient to the pharmacist.

Please help I am looking for a pharmacy tech job in Dallas?

We Answered:

I am guessing that you have no formal training, prior experience, or formal eduacation for being a Pharmacy Tech. If that is the case, it will be very hard to find a job.

What I did when I first started out was got a regular cashier job at a drugstore (supermarkets with pharmacys work, too) and busted my butt doing that until a spot opened up in the pharmacy. I asked to be moved back there, and I was.

Good luck!

Where can a 17 year old get a pharmacy tech job?

We Answered:

I believe you have to be 18 to work in a pharmacy. Also, I think Illinois requires all pharmacy techs to be certified before they can work behind the counter. If you want to be a pharmacy tech, look into getting certified first. There are a lot of online programs that can help you.

Who knows how to get pharmacy tech job without experience?

We Answered:

If you are certified, you will EASILY be able to get a job in a retail or supermarket pharmacy. Most places don't advertise when they are hiring in the pharmacy, so I would fill out an application just about everywhere! Make sure to call and check up on your app. a few days after you submit it, so the employer knows that you are seriously looking for a job.

Don't worry that you have no experience. However, be prepared to operate the cash register and wait on customers *almost all the time* when you first start out. You will also be working mostly nights and weekends.

Best way to get a Pharmacy Tech job?

We Answered:

Just apply to every retail pharmacy in your area. And I mean *every* retail pharmacy. 99% of pharmacies don't advertise that they are hiring because they would be swamped with applicants.

Two business days after you submit your resume, contact the store manager. They are the ones that hire people, not the pharmacists. Make sure you emphasize that you are willing to work any time - nights, weekends, and holidays are what you will be scheduled.

Even if you are only offered 10 or 15 hours per week, take whatever you can get because it is easier to ask for more hours after a few weeks than to get a job that offers 30-40 hours per week right off the bat.
