Ella Said:
What is the best pharmacy technician book to use for the PTCB exam?We Answered:
Going to a classroom is the best, but it's expensive. If you decide you want to self study for the PTCB, a "review manual" is the way to roll. They are updated more often than store bought books and are way cheaper. Store bought books are usually 50-100 bucks each, since every jobber who helped distribute it gets paid. Review Manuals cover what 3-5 books cover and they are printed and sent from their authors, so they are only 40-60 bucks. Not to mention the information is usually more accurate and fresh.
Another consideration is job placement. Some schools have job placement, which makes the tuition worth paying. Yes, the demand is out there for technicians. However, pharmacy managers want good people, so they call the schools and recruit from there first. Which makes getting a job tougher for self study folks.

How long does it take to study for the pharmacy technician exam if studying on your own?We Answered:
If you're already a seasoned Pharmacy Technician and are just trying to get certified through the PTCB, then it may be possible to study and pass in 2 weeks. Yes.However, if you are new to the industry and are trying to get certified to become more employable, it would take at a minimum of 3-4 months with a solid training program. Maybe a little less if you are a Math or Chemistry whiz or have a college degree in any science.
