Pharmacy Technician Certificate

Juan Said:

Pharmacy Technician Certificate valid in all states?

We Answered:

quickest way is to have the career adviser of your present school check licensing requirements in Florida for you.

Most medical field programs that give certificates [rather than diplomas] require a competency exam for a license to practice your profession. If Pharmacy Techs take a national exam, you are probably also licensed in Florida. Laboraatory, radiology, and paremedics all take national exams. I know that some states also require state competency exams.

so you r question for the adviser would be whether your competency exam is accepted by Florida.

How do you get your pharmacy technician certificate?

We Answered:

To become a Certified Pharmacy Technician, you may take either the PTCB or ExCPT exam.

As far as I know, formal schooling is only required in California and Washington. In other states, you could enroll in either a formal classroom program, an online program or just do self study.

One advantage that some organized programs offer is Job Placement assistance and free continuing ed. For some, the Job Placement help is worth the expense of the formal program. Be sure to get that part in writing if you do attend one on that premise.

No matter what path you choose, it all leads to taking one of the exams. The PTCB is the more popular of the exams because it is older and more widely accepted. The ExCPT exam is not recognized by all of the states yet.

The PTCB exam is comprised of 90 Multiple Choice questions. There are 4 choices, but only 1 is the correct answer. You get 2 hours to complete the test. It's in random format, which means the subject matter jumps around randomly.

To pass the PTCE:
you must score at least 650 of 900. Ten of the questions are sample questions for research purposes only and won't count against your passable score. You may read some online message boards (i.e. Yahoo groups) from people who have passed, telling what's on the test. Don't rely on that information because there are several test batteries that change every five years. The last update was in 2005, which means that they are currently updating it this year.

You will need to apply and be approved before taking the exam.

You must have:
? A High school diploma or equivalent.
? No misdemeanor conviction.(last 5 years)
? No felony conviction.
? No drug or pharmacy related convictions, including misdemeanors +/- 5 years old.
? No denial, suspension, revocation, or restriction of registration or licensure, consent orderor other restriction by any State Board of Pharmacy.
? No admission of misconduct or violation of regulations of any State Board of Pharmacy.

You are required to apply for the exam thru the PTCB website and they will issue you authorization to take the exam after the check your background. You will then schedule your exam with another company named Pearson Vue.

On the day of the appointment, you take your authorization letter and acceptable ID to the Pearson Vue testing center and the exam is all done on a computer with a proctor watching from a window behind you.

Hope I have answered your question. Please stop by my website if you have more questions.
