Pharmacy Technician Employment

Gail Said:

can an indian pharmacist work as a pharmacy technician in the USA?

We Answered:

Yes you can be a tech, each state has different requirements.

There is also a test the FPGEE where you can take tests in addition to the NAPLEX and MPJE to become a pharmacist if you are liscenced in another country. There is more information at the NABP website.

You'll have to do a year or more of internship to get hours to qualify, you get paid better as an intern rather than a tech at many locations.

Best of Luck.

June Said:

Are there any Pharmacy Techs that work from home?

We Answered:

Not to sound too stupid, but what good would a pharmacy tech not working in the pharmacy be?

Howard Said:

Where to work as a pharmacy technician?

We Answered:

I personally preferred working in a hospital pharmacy. There was less of the retail push to help people find the bamboo serving trays and the table fans on sale than the medications.

Usually of the two choices you have mentioned, the small family pharmacy has less push on the retail and more on the medicine, but the larger chain pharmacies can give you benefits, small chains can not afford. You have to decide what you need from both a personal goal and a financial standpoint.

In the hospital pharmacy, we wore pants (not jeans) a dress shirt, a tie and a lab coat. However, each pharmacy will have it's own dress code. Many pharmacies have the techs wear vests so they can be differentiated from the pharmacist. Others have them wear the short white coats but not full length lab coats. Most prefer you not wear jeans, and most prefer you wear a nice shirt. Ties I have noticed are much less common, even on the pharmacist these days.

Good Luck!

Rose Said:

Will i have to go to school to become a certified pharmacy technician?

We Answered:

No. You just have to pass an exam. You don't have to even pass the exam in most states to become a pharm tech.
The BS Pharm degree was discontinued closed to 10 years ago. The current degree is the PharmD degree. Taking your prereqs at a CC will put you at a disadvantage if you are applying without a bachelors.

Sylvia Said:

What is the best website to look on to find employment with a pharmacy as a certified pharmacy technician?

We Answered:

Call around local pharmacies, or try and contact the local hiring manager for the district.
Do not use the internet for Pharm Tech positions. It doesn't work.
