The demand really varies from state to state. I have a website for Pharmacy Tech students and I have gotten emails from a few people, complaining that they got certified and never got a job.

So, I asked them a few questions and found out that they assumed when they got certified that, the "pharmacy tech job fairy" was going to knock on their door. They hadn't even spoke to a pharmacist or applied many places.

Getting a job is a whole other task and you have to go looking for it. If you do, and really want one, you will find one sooner or later. Getting certified only qualifies you for the job.

I don't know your friends situation, but encourage her to not give up. The jobs are out there !

I was on Craigs list Friday night and saw an ad for a mail order pharmacy in the Greenspoint area hiring pharmacy techs. with out experience. A hospital may be a place to look for the same thing because they are less likely to need many of them. This is a bad time of the year to be job hunting because all the HR people are on vacation for the holidays.

It is my opinion that pharmacy tech is a good opportunity to see if you would be interested in pharmacy as a career. It also demonstrates to an employer that you are trustworthy and good at detail in your work.

From the environment you will pick up information on medical issues and drugs. This may spur you to explore other health care fields.

The time limit is really not an issue - if it pays the bills and you like it, stay with it until you decide to move on to something else.

I have known and worked with pharmacists who began as pharmacy techs.
