wow deja vu. same situation for me. you don't need to get pharmacy tech experience, but go ahead and apply to places like cvs/walgreens for pharmacy tech jobs. they train you, and pay pretty well. you get paid and pad on the resume. i don't know how much it helps but it should help somewhat. i am doing clinical hours at a local hospital in the pharmacy as well.

I don't think NY has any requirements to work as a pharm tech. As long as you can work legally, you can be a pharm tech.

The only requirements to be a pharm tech are a HS diploma/GED and a clean criminal record.

Hi in california its not required to be certified even though u should,however u do need to be registered with the California board of Pharmacy see pharmacies are govern by each states board of pharmacy laws,u have to attend a program with a minimum of 240 instructional hours and 120 hrs externship,after ur done with ur program u send a $80 money order to California Board of Pharmacy along with application 17a-5(pharmacy tech)it is important u fill it out correctly and completely or they may reject it tape a 2by2photo(go to cvs or walgreens ask to take the passport pic like $7.00)tape 2 application if ur certified a send a certified true copy u also need a copy of ur live-scan form fill out w/fingerprints it takes like 3 mths to get license. To get certified theres 2 ways the nation pharmacy tech exam(but most places don't like or accept) and the good one getting certified by the PTCB(pharmacy technician certification Board)u have to study for the exam pay the fee only like 90 bucks schedule ur testing site and date,the test is not that easy so the best advice i can give u is practice mainly your pharmacy math calculations since (assisting the pharmacist count for 64%off test,know ur HIPPA LAWS,DEA,study top 200 drugs know their classification,generic and brand and common interactions,difference between inpatient and outpatient pharmacy.Has for IV courses check chaffey college in ontario,its hard getting ur foot in the door so ,just try to get into any pharmacy then after 6mths to a year apply at hospital its harder to get a job at a hospital with no experience.I became a pharmacy tech at california in san bernardino,then i came to texas i 'm national certified from PTCB have been since 2006 i work at community clinic and ben taub hospital :)I'M also a member of the PHARMACY TECHNICIAN .ORG and volunteer BEST OF LUCK:)

If she wants to work at Walgreen's she needs to apply there and if they hire her they will train her on the job. After she completes her training they will help her get certified. I work at a Walgreen's and am a Certified Pharmacy Technician. Each state has different guidelines to being certified but to be nationally certified you take a test with the PTCB.
