Hi Mari, I think getting married at the courthouse is a good thing. But you just mentioned that you might go away for 3-4 days. Why not get married while your away for those 3-4 days? There are so many places here in the US where you can have a wedding and a honeymoon combined in one.

I recently had one cousin get married in Tuscany, Italy because she didn't want a huge wedding. It was just her and her husband. They were married in a private Catholic ceremony.

One thing though if you do decide to get married on a DW. Be sure to take lots of pictures. I didn't get alot of memories from my wedding. :( But that will be rectifiied when we have our renewal of vows. I didn't get to have a honeymoon either. I had to spend mine carting my ungrateful in-laws around. Yeah I know sad huh?

As far as having a dinner for family and friends.. Why not ask your parents to host a dinner for when you both get back from your 3-4 days away. Of course pay for the food and drinks. But that would kill two birds with one stone.

I'm like you and your fiance. I'm paying for my education out of my own pocket. It's much easier then having to deal with financial aid. And when I am done with school, I will NOT have any debts. And to top it all off, it's all tax deductible at the end of the tax year. :)
