Flight Training Loans and Grants - How To Pay For Flight Training?

We Answered:

Flight schools allow you to pay for your flight training on a "pay as you go" basis, so that you pay only when you complete a flight lesson. Some schools also have partnerships with banks or financial institutions that provide loans for flight training to eligible students.

Scholarships are the most direct way to finance your flight training, but they don't work for all. Based on your requirements, there are a number of little-known ways that you can use to fund your pilot training career.

Heidi Said:

How to pay for pilot training? Different careers as a pilot?

We Answered:

As far as the degree goes, he can always get a loan, or scholarship. If its his first degree he can apply for FAFSA, he might be eligible for grants/loans.

For the career, he get his CFI, work, make money and build up hours, its not very good pay, but you dont have to pay for plane rentals. To get any kind of paying job that isn't flight instructing he needs his commercial.

changing careers to become a teacher in college?

We Answered:

When I was working on my Masters I did a research paper on the difference between the "Preferred", "Minimum", and "Actual" qualifications of college math instructors in my state. The results showed that schools are *very often* hiring not only below their own 'preferred' requirements... but below their own 'minimum' requirements.

In Math this happens because it is such a short staffed field... they get desperate. However, my husband works in a community college (and I have worked at colleges in the past) and we have both seen that they do this in other fields for other reasons as well. 'Real world' fields like business need people who have 'been there' as much or more as they need the degrees hung up on the wall!

They want you *working* on your pretty piece of paper (Masters/Doctorate)... but they *want* your experience in that classroom as well. In fact... I think if you go out job hunting in colleges you will find many that are willing to *pay* for your education while you are teaching for them.

I would look first at Jr/Community colleges that need adjunct instructors. Be willing to teach at the most undesirable times and to take the least popular courses at first... get your foot in that door. Then let them know you are willing to go back for your degree... You could even sign up for a Masters Degree program first so they know you are serious.

Good luck!
