Achilles Tendon Physical Therapy

Shawn Said:

ripped achilles tendon?

We Answered:

I have heard that it can be permanent

Floyd Said:

Achilles tendon sliced with hockey skate. Will It heal?

We Answered:

You are still at a risk for retearing it...the tendon is likely somewhat healed, but is probably replaced with an inferior form of the tendon. It will need remodeling through PT in order to allow the tendon to regain full tensile strength.

Edgar Said:

a doctor in new york city that uses botox to treat tight achilles tendon?

We Answered:

Botox? Can't say I've heard of this either for this condition...rather, the up and coming treatment for tendon problems that has failed PT is Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy. I still don't know a whole lot about it, but there are definitely physicians in NYC that do this...

Alvin Said:

What type of Physical Therapy is best for a recovering Ruptured Achilles Tendon Following Surgery?

We Answered:

Healing continues on even after the incision is healed. If you are going to a qualified Physical Therapist he/she will be your best resource. Make sure the PT you are seeing has experience in treating your kind of injury. One of the first steps they should take is improving the mobility of the tendon, improving your flexibility and normalizing your walking pattern. The most likely reason you continue to limp is the shortening of the muscle/tendon does not allow for normal walking mechanics. This will improve over time. Just remember you had surgery and was in a cast and walking boot for quite a long time. Patience and perserverance as well as team work with your Physical Therapist will pay off!!!

Freddie Said:

i had tendonitis in my achilles tendon over five months ago... i took time off, why does it still bother me?

We Answered:

I have had Plantar Fasciitis twice, pulled a hamstring, and pulled another ligament near the tarsal tunnel nerve (indside of the ankle). Recovery time was 8 months, 5 months, 3 months and 12 months respectively. I was training for marathons and planned to run about 3 hrs; my times for 10k races was about 35 minutes, just for reference.

I did all of the things you did, yet it still took that long before I could start to train again. And I ran scared for a few months, afraid to re-injure the areas. The good news is they all healed, although if I push I still feel some stiffness in the hamstring.

It's hard to accept that you can't race for a couple of months, but ligaments don't get much blood flow and therefore can't heal quickly. All four of the injuries I got had no warning; I stopped running when they struck and still it took forever. And I completely stopped running each time. if I were your doctor, I would put your foot in a brace to make sure you don't try to run on it.

If you don't let it heal, you could cause a permanent injury. Is running for the next two months worth never running again? Watch football sometime; when those guys hurt a ligament, they're out for months even with the best medicine in the world.

Jordan Said:

Do I need to get an MRI on my Achilles tendon?

We Answered:

my friend was in the same situation when she sprained it doing sprints at soccer practice. also, me and my sister have both been in physical therapy before for sports injuries. the therapy actually caused my sister more problems than she had before. her shoulder started dislocating in more places (she did cheerleading) and pretty much did more damage than it helped. you may want to consider this next time you go. if the tendon is inflamed or irritated, therapy may do more harm than help. if it does get worse, definately go for an MRI! hope you feel better :)
