5 weeks you shouldn't be doing any cutting/twisting; probably shouldn't be doing too much impact work either (but I always tore meniscus too, so maybe that's why).If it's heavy weight training, it's fine...at your stage, building muscle is the primary goal (while maintaining ROM)

Different doctors have different opinions on when you can start driving. I my opinion you should not start until you are capable of slamming on the breaks to bring the car to a stop without hesitation if lets say, your brother or sister jumps out in front of your car.Physical therapy begins when your surgeon says so. I often see patients within 24 hours of surgery. In fact I like to see them at least once before surgery to make sure they can walk safe with a set of crutches and teach them straight leg raise exercises and quadriceps muscle sets. A lot of patients struggle with it after surgery due to pain and swelling and practicing these before surgery helps.
Transportation to and from therapy needs to be sorted out before surgery.
You may find that the doc that says that you can start driving after 2 weeks is aggressive and may want you in therapy right away and meet certain goals before allowing you to drive.
What if they find something else that needs repair (that did not show up on the MRI that I assume you have had) or you are one of those people that struggle with range of motion or have very high pain and can't drive for longer than anticipated ?
I would also check with your insurance to see how many PT visits they allow a year and what if you run out. Therapy after ACL surgery can often go several months and if your plan only allows 15 visits you better make each one count. I hate to say it but you need to consider your insurance coverage as well when making this descision
There needs to be a Plan B. Discuss with your surgeon that you will have no transportation to PT other than yourself.

It depends on the type of graft you had (cadaver vs. autograft) as well as site of donation (if autograft). Finally, it also depends on the protocol used by the surgeon...it may vary dramatically different between surgeons. We have some physicians who will get their patient in PT within the first week...others delay it for a month. Some like to begin quad setting right away, others insist on wait for quad exercises. Your surgeon really needs to answer this question.
