Aquatic Physical Therapy

Can Someone Please Help Me Out?

We Answered:

This may not solve your problems but it couldn't hurt to try.... most of the pain that people feel esp in their lower back is caused by mental stress rather than real pain at all, with that being said i realize that you actually do have an injury although maybe taking yoga or trying to take your mind off the actual pain and telling yourself NO.... i dont feel any injury its just stress now thiss may or may not work becuase it has been identified that you have a real injury but i no people who have used this sychological method to relieve their back pain give it a try and see if it helps also i believe there is a book that talks all about what i just said i cant remember the name but maybe you could google it idk mind over matter anything to be associated with the topic. Good Luck!!!!

What are the benefits of aquatic physical therapy?

We Answered:

Those who benefit from it the most tend to be those with pathology advanced enough that a land based exercise program is too painful or difficult for them (ie, putting too much weight through their joints). Typically, this include those with advanced arthritis severe traumas, spinal cord injuries, etc.

Other consideration are those with chronic pain syndromes where the water can not only provide a more soothing input to the nervous system to decrease sensitivity, but it also helps to provide confidence with movement due to the low risk of falls.

Aquatic therapy doesn't necessarily have to replace a land based program, but there are some people who just thrive better in the water.

Ankle strain....unhappy with recovery?

We Answered:

Time to see if there is more sigificant structural damage which may only be detectable on MRI.

...it may also benefit you to see a DPM who is also a board certified orthopedic surgeon

Guillain-Barre. Who's had it? Who can help me?

We Answered:

My grandfather had Guillain-Barre several years ago, and was in much the same situation as you -- wheelchairs, walkers, and extensive physical therapy.

Keep your chin up! My grandfather is now fully capable of walking and carrying on a normal level of activity, so if you stick with the therapy you should do fine!
