At Still University Physical Therapy

Brenda Said:

Hoping for some good academic advice concerning doctorate in physical therapy?

We Answered:

If you are sure on the decision to go all the way to PT school, you are right to question where you are now. As you implied, most applied associates degrees are non-transferable. Therefore, your best suggestion would be to simply work on an AA or AS (as opposed to AAS) because these courses will transfer to a school where you can complete your BS to be eligible to apply to PT school. Start working on just your general education requirements and possibly some of the PT prerequisites. Don't get into a technical degree like a medical assistant.

Todd Said:

What are my chances of getting into the UIC GPPA Program for physical therapy?

We Answered:

You should''t be worried. What's your unweighted GPA.

Some programs are more selective than others. They will look at other things besides your grades and ACT scores. The GPPA Program is very selective, but you exceeed the requirements. I know for certain the is a requirement is to have 3.6GPA GPPA Program and an ACT score of 28 or higher.
GPPA applicants must meet the following admission requirements*:
Achieve a minimum composite ACT score of 28 or minimum combined (math + critical reading) SAT score of 1240.
The writing portion of the both the ACT and SAT are not reviewed during the admission process.
The SAT II is not reviewed during the admission process.
Rank in the top 15% of the high school class
If the high school does not rank, please disregard this requirement.
Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident for the programs of Medicine, Dentistry, and Public Health.
Be a resident of Illinois for Medicine and Dentistry.
To determine if you qualify for Illinois residency, please refer to the University of Illinois residency requirements.
*Please note that not all students meeting the minimum requirements for GPPA are admitted. Admission is competitive and space in many programs is limited each year.

Admission Requirements – Honors College
Any incoming freshman may apply and be considered for admission. Entering freshmen with high ACT/SAT scores and exceptional high s school records are encouraged to apply.

Admission is based upon standardized test scores, high school class rank, grades earned in high school, extracurricular interests and activities, strength of the application essays, interview, and willingness to participate in the Honors College.

Cathy Said:

Can I get into UIC (University of Illinois at Chicago)?

We Answered:

I don't see this being a problem.

If you are undecided between nursing and PT by the time you go to college, just start taking some of the classes that are required by both majors...general bio is a good start as well as your general educaiton credits.

Jesus Said:

Can I take my first two years at a community college and still become a physical therapist.?

We Answered:

Yes, my friend did that. He stayed home after high school because he wasn't ready to move, and he wanted to save money, while still going to a community college. He's 21 now, and goes to some University in Baltimore, MD. Make sure you do good in community because that's where he got checked on before he was accepted.
He's studying for physical therapy too, he inspired me to do the exact same thing. I'm 17 so it works out, lol.

Eleanor Said:

How do I get into physical therapy in the NFL?

We Answered:

Baylor is an excellent PT program.

Being a PT in the NFL is a pretty lofty goal...consider returning to school after your DPT for an advanced doctorate degree (PhD) as well as complete a manual therapy fellowship...although this may be difficult to do before the age of 30...but definetely doable.

If not the NFL, yes, there are postions where clinics focus primarily on athletes...but you may still get the "average joe" thrown in their on occasion.
