Joseph Said:

Should I move back home?

We Answered:

My opinion - without simply looking for the easy way out of everything, life is too short to be miserable. If going home is going to make you happy then go home and be happy - just make sure you work at it and do something worthwhile (I mean worthwhile to you and that does not mean money).

BUT - have you given it a fair shot - It takes work to be happy - You gotta get out there and take your chances (sometimes you get dealt a bummer and it can be a misery maker, that it can), again if it happens you gotta get back up and get out there - it ain't always easy either - but have you given it a fair shake? When it works it is well worth the work.

By work at it I do not mean physical either, what I mean is you have to work at being honest with yourself, What makes you happy, what will make you happy? You! Not what others think should make you happy. Only you can know this - be honest with yourself.

1. Have you given it a fair shot? (have you made the effort to get out there and get involved. (thought - do something for strangers on the weekend (i.e. volunteer) not forever, just do something.

2. What do YOU want to do.

3. Are you simply unhappy because you are homesick or lonely. If so go back to 2, and ask again.

4. Are you really sure you want to go back home. Really really sure that it is what YOU want.

4. If you want to go back to classes, GO NOW. Give it your all. Yesterday doesn't come back again and opportunity lost is just that LOST.

Hey... chin up smile... You got options, have fun and just do whaterver you do with all your heart. When you sleep - sleep well, do it the best you can but don't spend your life sleeping. The same with everything else, do it hard and give it your all, always - everything, the little things and the big things.

PS: Sundays away from home are a real bummer so go now and look out the window. LOOK. LOOK HARD and then phone home with a big smile.

Where should a recent graduate move to in US?

I was thinking you might really like Portland, Oregon. I also think you'd like San Fran, but it's unbelievably expensive to live there right now. Otherwise, it's perfect. I love it, but the prices! Higher than NYC!

Portland is smaller by far than San Fran, but it may have the right combo of funky smaller city and extreme love of the outdoors for you. Very big outdoors culture, plus fun city. Nice. Decent public transit as well. Very inexpensive, relative to NY or SF.

Seattle could also work. My friends who live there love it.

I know you didn't list it, but you may also like Colorado - Boulder, perhaps. Extremely popular outdoor culture, lots to do, but relatively quite conservative - not sure what you want re: culture and politics. Far more sun in Colorado than in Seattle, and than Portland.

NYC and biking... Not so much. Not on the streets, anyway. Central Park is good for it, but the streets? People do it, but it's not easy, and it's dangerous with the traffic. My friend was a bike messenger. I don't recommend it. But you've been here, so what do *you* think?

NYC does have a very active outdoor culture, which surprises people when they hear of it. It's a very active city.

Boston, you don't list, but you might like. Active outdoor culture, good public transit, cheaper than NYC, lots of culture, access to mountains and beaches. Nice.

Planning to move to Atlanta, GA once I graduate college in 2010 with my fiance.. any advice is welcomed!!! :)?

We Answered:

Atlanta is a great place to live!!

I recommend getting a house outside of the city. Theres a great pulbic transportation system called MARTA, that is cheap and safe. Atlanta is a great place to look for a job, the job market is growing, and lots of companies have bases there. Also lots of great night life, clubs, resturants, ect.

Enjoy!!!

Where should I move?

We Answered:

I would suggest exploring the burbs around those cities you are interested in. All big cities are expensive and have big city problems like crime, polution, traffic, etc. If you lived and worked on the outside you could commute into the city for activities and social events.

I have been to Portland, Seattle, San Fran and San Diego many times. Each has their own charm. Portland and Seattle are wetter & colder, with fewer sunny days. The weather in San Fransisco and San Diego is good, in fact San Diego is nearly perfect. But Big Bucks are needed. And I think someone took the last available parking space in San Fran about April 23, 1989. It is still the most beautiful city! Don't forget San Fran has fewer available singles and San Diego has plenty due to the Navy base.

I need to know how to enroll my 7yr old child in the Marcus Institute here in Atlanta Ga.?

We Answered:

Ask them.

Ask your child study team.

The school would need to be paid for by your school district...but if they provide an appropriate education elsewhere they don't have to.

Is it worth the move?

We Answered:

I add to my previous.

YOU must decide what you want to do. As with everything there is advantages and disadvantages and with everything there is risk and reward too.

Stay = good pay(?) and independence. Downside = crappy roommates and it takes a long while to find good friends. Work needed.

Go Home = Family and friends, you know where you are and things are simpler. PLUS you can go back to study. Downside = Less pay and less independence and somebody else makes the house rules. There will be less that is new and challenging.

All this has nothing to do with copping out or it being tough. Tough is good if you choose a challenge to be that way. Lousy if you just plod on a course you have really not chosen or have changed your mind about. Yes you are allowed to change your mind in your life and no you do not get marks deducted if you do.

Bottom line is: you looked over the fence and decided to go and take a look if the grass was actually greener. Now you are there you gotta decide, is the grass greener or did it only look greener because all the cows were crapping there. I don't know. I am not there. You gotta look around and decide.

There is no exam here. There is no Pass or Fail. It is your life. You DECIDE what you want to do. Then do it. Make damn sure it is what YOU WANT TO DO. No baggage, no if's and but's. You choose. Then get on with it.

Now I emphasise "WHAT YOU WANT TO DO". By ensuring it is a solid firm choice you can have no regrets - however it works out you chose it. You take the risks, you take the rewards and all the consequences. If you stay you continue assessing what you are doing and if you change your mind later on and decide you want to do something else or take a different road or another challenge. Do it. If you go back home now when you get back and you continue assessing what you are doing and if you decide later on to leave again. Do it. What's stopping you.

Just be responsible about whatever you do. Give whatever you choose your everything. Live with the wonder, joy, consequences, rewards, ups and downs. Heck that's life.

Now CHOOSE and get on with it.
