Jean Said:

whats a good college class to take to see if i would like physical therapy?

We Answered:

Unfortantly, you can not take PT classes until grad school. The pre reqs are hard science classes lik chem bio physics and anatomy. A and P is probably the class to see if you have an intersted in the human body. I would spend some time shadow a therapist to see if it what you want.

dance therapy major?

We Answered:

I know one person who wants to major in Dance Therapy. My Modern dance teacher has degrees in that and is a practicing dance therapist.

What I know is that you can work with all types of people: young, old, mentally and/or physically disabled, people with other mental conditions or stress, etc. Its just another artistic way of therapy like art and music therapies. In my opinion I think it works better for some people compared to regular therapy where you sit and talk.

I'm not sure about how much money you can make, or schools. I'd assume schooling is about 2-4 years.

Here is some info, its actually a major I am interested in myself. http://www.collegeboard.com/csearch/majo…

Pursuing a Biology / Physical Therapy major?

We Answered:

Physical therapist are concerned with the restoration of function. People may have trouble doing things because they lack balance, strength, mobility or have pain. It is the job of a physical therapist to perform an evaluation of the functional programs and design a program to treat it. We work with people who have injuries such as sprain, strains, etc, or people who've been in traumas or suffer from a disease process such as multiple sclerosis, etc.

In the US, it is graduate level program resulting in either a master's or doctorate level. There is a heavy emphasis in the sciences. If you are really interested in research, I highly suggest you enter a doctorate level program (DPT, and eventually go for your PhD).

You can major in anthing you wish as an undergraduate. What matters most is that you complete the prerequisite courses.

In 2005, the average salary for new graduates was around $43,000...but job demand is starting to increase that. In the same survery, most PTs earned between $50-70,000...salary generally increases 2-4% per year with experience and increases further with specialty certifications or "hard to fill" positions.

physical therapy question?

We Answered:

It does not matter where you go for your BS. PT is a grad program. Go where you are offered a scholarship for undergrad.. You can major in anything as long as you complete your pre reqs. I am not a fan of bio. There are too many difficult courses that are not relevant. People do it. You need a 3.5 or better. You can do psy, business, kinesiology, exercise science, althetic training, health science, rehab science, etc. You will not be at a disadvantage because everyone coming in to PT school need the same pre reqs

List of pre reqs for each school is in the link below

Billy Said:

How are my chances for getting into Purdue's pre-physical therapy program?

We Answered:

There is no minimum GPA requirements for getting into Purdue. You fall into the "normal" student GPA range at Purdue. Your activities will help your application.

I don't think getting into Purdue will be a problem if thats where you want to complete your undergraduate education (the occupational health program will help you get many of the courses you need to enroll in a PT program elsewhere).

Strive for a higher college GPA once you are there.
