Colleges With Physical Therapy Programs

Ernest Said:

i need help finding all the undergraduate physical therapy programs in the US

We Answered:

I think you mean a "direct admit" program. None of them are undergraduate programs...all PT programs are masters or doctorate level in the US. A direct admit program admits you at the freshman level, and you can remain in the program through the graduate phase, as long as you maintain the requirements.

Go to the main list at www.apta.org (link on the right hand side for list of PT/PTA schools). Once you pull up that list. Look for the schools that are denoted as : "A2" This means they have a direct admit program.

P.S...the link to the US news and world report list of schools as posted above is incomplete.

Eileen Said:

Physical Therapy college program question.?

We Answered:

Yes, I agree with the above post. There is no benefit to becoming a PTA first, you do not get the prerequisites you need for PT school AND the actual PTA courses do not count towards the PT degree. The programs are much different. In the PT program, learning how to treat is a relatively simple part of the program because it's based on physiology and anatomy you learned as an undergraduate. Your focus in PT will be on learning how to apply concepts of differential diagnosis and how to decide on what is the best plan of care. Whereas in PTA school, the main focus is on how to apply treatments.

As a PT, you will evaluate, decide the plan of care AND treat patients.

You should finish your AA, then transfer to a 4 year university to complete any remaining prerequisites and finish your BS. Then enter the DPT program.

Good luck.

Johnnie Said:

Should i go to an undergraduate school without a physical therapy program then go to a graduate school with it?

We Answered:

It's common to transfer as a graduate student. I would just review the program you eventually hope to attend. Some schools explicitly say they give preference to their own graduates. As long as it doesn't say that and as long as you coordinate with the school ahead of time that your prerequisites will transfer, then you should be fine.
