Degrees In Physical Therapy

Mildred Said:

Physical therapy degrees? Anyone in medical school for this?

We Answered:

Regarding medical school, physical therapy does not necessarily take place in medical school. Some are HOUSED at medical schools, but they do not result in a degree in medicine, they result in a degree in physical therapy...usually a DPT (doctorate of physical therapy).

Physical therapy is a competitve entrance program. Minimum GPA is usally at least a 3.0, however, most students who get into the program have at least a 3.5. There is heavy emphasis on the sciences, math and psychology. Many qualified students are not admitted.

Once you've had a couple Cs, and if you've had ANY Cs in the prerequisite courses, entrance into the PT program is nearly impossible.

A less rigerous option would be a physical therapy assistant program which is an associate's degree. These programs are usually housed at community colleges and entrance, although still competitive, is not as rigerous as the PT degree. Typical requirements include a C average and having taken high school level biology and physics. You have to maintain at least a C average to remain in the program.
