Dpt Physical Therapy

Donna Said:

Applying for a DPT(doc physical therapy) program with a Bachelor in nursing? is it possible?

We Answered:

In PT you can get a BS in anything as long as you meet the pre reqs. Generally the pre reqs include one year of

general chemistry with labs
general physics with labs
general bio with labs
A and P with labs
math
psy
stats

A BSN probably will not allow you enough time for the pre reqs. If you truly want a nursing degree, you may consider a AAS in nursing to allow you time for pre reqs during your junior and senior year. There are some nurses who are also PT but not many.

Steven Said:

What's the difference between an MS and DPT degree in physical therapy?

We Answered:

Some schools are different but in general it breaks down as follows...

PTA - Physical Therapy Assistant = 2 yr degree

PT - Physical Therapist = 4 yr degree

MPT (MS) - Masters Degree in Physical Therapy = 4 yr + 2 yrs grad school

DPT - Doctor of Physical Therapy = 4 yrs + 3-4 yrs grad school

Hope that helps.

Vera Said:

What are the top Colleges that has DPT (physical therapy)?

We Answered:

What you are looking for is called a "direct admit program". It's offered by a few schools, such as Bradley, Marquette, etc. If you go Here:

You'll find a list of ALL the PT programs in the US. However, those marked at "A2" are direct admit programs.

Samuel Said:

Should i go to the university as a freshmen where they offer the Graduate physical therapy program?

We Answered:

Generally, it doesn't matter. However, you may want to review the website of the PT program. Some make it known explicitly that they give preference to their own students.

...its only more expensive if it's at a private school.

Marvin Said:

Does the NBA/NFL hire individuals with a doctorate in physical therapy (DPT) or just Medical Doctors?

We Answered:

There are undoubtedly PTs within all the professional athletic associations. However, it's likely that those with DPTs also have an extensive background in sports med, such as having their BS degree in athletic training as well as other sports certifications: CSCS, OCS and/or SMC, etc. This is an extremely, extremely competitive niche in PT.
