Electrical Stimulation Physical Therapy
Sherri Said:
Why is it that when physical therapists use unproven methods it is not called alternative medicine? We Answered:
...I question why we use it at all. You are correct...not only are they not proven, but for the most part they've been UNproven. PTs that are on the cutting edge of evidence based practice realize this....there is a good body of evidence for exercise, mechanical classification, directional preference exercise etc. These are the things on which we need to continue to focus.
Its things like ultrasound, electrical stim, massage, myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, strain counterstrain, and kinesiotaping which are giving the profession a bad name. I suggest that insurance companies stop paying for them until it's proven otherwise.
...I agree with you 100%
...but let's call them what they really are: The placebo effect

Can I use a Electrical Muscle Stimulation machine for physical therepy for a previous shoulder dislocation? We Answered:
I had neck problems and the physio put an Electrical muscle stimulation machine on my neck and back.... But I'm sure she knew exactly where to put it. So I would ask your therapist for directions...Casey Said:
I sprained my ankle 2 years ago and still can't move my toes?We Answered:
maybe your should go see someone about it, sounds to me like you've severed a tendon or something. they grow back with time but a year after makes it sound pretty serious. :(Vicki Said:
are there any risks in having electrical stimulation done on hands and arms in physical therapy sessions? We Answered:
no STEM is done all the time in PT in order to help ur muscles regain their sensitivity... which will help u when it comes to strengthening and proprioception...plus the therapist will set the machine so that it doesnt go to hard... u want to be able to feel a strong but comfortable pulsing, but not have the muscle contracting
u have nothing to worry about

Why do some religious people want to spend more time talking about thier beliefs than doing thier jobs?We Answered:
that is very sad. he could be so good at his job if he was professional and followed the rule of having a respect of your patient beliefs. I'm in the medical field, and I know how f#cked up that is. some people have no common sense and no respect for others. he was probably just doing it mostly for the money anyway. hope your back feels better soon.Kent Said:
Does electrical stimulation hurt?We Answered:
First, just because the physician suggests it, it doesnt' mean it will necessarily be used. Most physicians give PT orders as guidlines and very few intend for everything to be done that is listed...rather it allows the therapist to choose from a variety of treatments that MIGHT be helpful.Second, it would depend on what is the purpose of the e-stim. If meant for pain, no it does not hurt because it should only be turned up to your tolerance. This is typicall TENS or IFC
If meant to stimulate a muscle contraction (NMES), this tends to be more uncomfortable than TENS or IFC.
But no stimulation should be turned up beyond your tolerance.

Pelvis rotated backwards, therapy or surgery options ??We Answered:
i have what you have up the opposite believe it or not (pelvis rotated forward)currently seeing a physiotherapist and is doing me wonders, the best thing you can do is strengthen up both your abdominal muscles and your lower back muscles, but in your case id say mainly abs
did they mention hip flexors at all? mine occured because they havnt properly stretched to accomodate my growth so they pull the pelvis down with my legs...maybe its possible you got it the other way? (legs being forced closer, pushing pelvis back due to the hip flexors)
im doing daily exercises of lunges (stretching hip flexors), slow controlled bicycle crunches (squeeze pelvis and back muscles, flatten back on ground and maintain tense until the leg being extended is back on the floor) and basically alot of other pilates/endurance type exercises
so yeah unless you've already been and it isnt working id strongly recommend having a physiotherapist help to treat it...im not sure what you mean by obgyn department but my guy is just a regular but awesome physio
btw im only 17 haha wow cant wait to turn 60 aye
best of luck to your recovery!
