Hand Physical Therapy Exercises

Marcus Said:

When Do I Need to Stop Physical Therapy?

We Answered:

You are not doing PT because you have not seen a PT. You are doing some exercises off of a website. A PT has gone to school for 6-7 years and can evaluate and make specific recommendations based on you specific problem. Hands are very important and very tricky to treat. Yes it is expensive, unfortuantely. PT are fighting high copays. But go for a few sessions, to be evaluated and learn the proper treatment. I hate paying for medical expenses but I pay them if I need them. I spent 10 minutes at urgent care for 130 dollars only to tell me that I need to go to the ER and get admitted for IV antiobiotics. The doctors bill from the ER was 600 dollars I saw him for 5 minutes to tell the nurse to start the IVs and to tell me that I can sit in the ER all day. Haven't see the ER bill yet.

Physical therapy exercises for finger flexors and elbow?

We Answered:

Do you swim? That is the best exercise for your elbow. Get a little rubber ball that fits the hand well and squeeze it over and over during the day. Stress balls are readily available and are good for the office.

Ian Said:

Have ever broken a bone? I have two. I need to know about physical therapy and the healing process.?

We Answered:

1. How long did it take to get healed

It depends on the size of the breaks, your own healing ability, your nutrition and hydration, your ability to rest it & the physiotherapy you do.

2. Was it the same as before once it healed

Most breaks can be evident a long time after - pains in winter

3. Did you do physical therapy

Everyone needs to

4. If you did physical therapy, What type of exercises did you do?

I recommend you imagine picking up a can of beans [later use a real one] Reach out - grip - pick up - twist one way then the other.

Take it slow - pain is not good if acute stop you're trying too soon. Just keep trying gently.

email me if you have problems.

In my own observation why the averages of physical therapy are women?

We Answered:

Aside from a few cases, the strength requirement to hold up a patient is not as much as you might think. We learn about leverage, body mechanics and safety devices to manage a patient. When it comes right down to it, even the largest male therapists will not be able to hold up a large patient who is a "dead weight" lift...even if they can physically lift that amount, to be able to handle to awkwardness of the human body is quite challenging for anyone...male or female. I've seen strong men have patients falls with them, just as I've seen it with women...this idea is to provide the safest environment reasonable, minimize risk and maximize funciton.

You are correct in saying that the field is dominanted by females...its just generally a career that appeals to women...the need to care and empathize with patients is usually the draw. Consider nurses as well...they need to lift and move heavy patients as well...but nursing also continues to be dominated by women. We certainly welcome men into the field, but the truth is, it doesn't appear to many men.

Danielle Said:

they took my cast off 2 weeks ago why is my hand so sore & swollen?

We Answered:

Hands are very necessart for life. Go to PT. Set up a payment plan. It should only take a few visits. You will regret not spending the money later. With out you are going miss work and fuction so spending a couple of hundred dollars will be worth it. If you really can t afford it some places with do pro bono work. Go to a private office not a hospital practice. The hospital even their satalite offices usually charge more because of the overhead.
