Laser Physical Therapy

Carole Said:

really weird... how do know if both arthroscopic knee surgeries may have failed?

We Answered:

Sounds like your doctors are on the right track. If the knee is in the correct alignment. The quad is what holds the patella in place. A very weak quad can cause the pain. Your right it is a catch 22. You can try to deal with the pain and get the quad stronger. Next step could be total knee replacement.

Kitty physical therapy for hips- what are some good exercises?

We Answered:

Give her A Madge every day.
She will get made about it but put her in the tub with worm water and try to get her to just walk around in it.Trust me it will be the best thing for her. Make shore that she can stand in the tub the water should be up to her belly. You can make A harness for her so that she will not slip and that way she can not get out. Start out with 3 minuets and work you way up to about 15 minutes. Do it every day until you thank she is close to the way she was before. Also you can give her some vitamin supplements to help her also you might want to try the ones for arthritis. you can get both at walmart. Just do not use the Hertz or sergent kind.

Why do physical therapists try and bill low level laser as infrared therapy?

We Answered:

I don't use either and I'm not involved in billing, so I can only speculate.

My best guesses are:

Infrared CPT code can be used as long as it's listed with a modified -22 to denote an "unusual modality"

Laser is not billable under medicare, so for consistency in a clinic that sees a high medicare population, they may have eliminated the CPT code from their repitoire...fully realizing they are not going to get crap from Medicare anyway for a modality, but it would be "more legal" than billing it under Ther ex.

I'm not saying it' right
...the whole CPT code system needs to be done away with anyway and causes more problems than it's worth. When Medicare realizes that all the red tape they've created is costing more money to enforce than it is in reducing costs, it will change.

...and hopefully your job will get a lot easier.
