Dolores Said:

Possible Jobs with a BS degree in Pre-physical Therapy.?

We Answered:

To be frank, there are not many options outside physical therapy with that major. It is preparing you for a PT career specifically. If you are unsure about your future, it might be wise to switch into a more general major, like biology. That way you could go to PT school, or find a job in another field. A minor in business administration would be wise in general for life and helpful in whatever you decide to go into. Good Luck!

Lori Said:

What training do you need to be a physical therapist?

We Answered:

For admission into a PT program, your initial degree does not matter; but you would need to complete a list of prerequisite courses if you did not have them as an undergrad...it usually requires a year of chemisty and physics, a year and a half of biology and psychology, statistics and calc or trig, and anatomy and physiology. Each school has a specific guidlines as to which particular courses should be taken, but these are imperitive to completion prior to admission to the professional phase of the program. At this time, all PT programs in the US are either at the master's or doctorate level.

As far as PTA degrees, this remains a 2 year degree; and high school equivelent science courses are usually required for admission. Your degree will not influence your admission to this program...although you will probably not have to take your gen eds...Otherwise, your training would be the same as other PTA students.

Both PTs and PTAs are once again in demand, but the PTA career will hit a ceiling before the PT does. Many staffing agencies, home health care corperations and extended care facilities are offering sign on bonuses that could reach up to $5,000. The demand in these particular settings is higher than clinic and hospital settings.

You may visit www.apta.org to obtain a list of accredited PT programs and to learn more about the career.

Mike Said:

i want to go into buisness/marketing what kind of qualities do i need? what should i focus on in college?

We Answered:

First off, because you aren't really sure what you want to pursue yet, I would recommend finding a large university. The bigger, the better. You will have more opportunities to explore career choices. Also, bigger universities generally have MUCH more well connected business schools with many more opportunities for internships and such. Furthermore, larger universities (generally speaking) carry more name recognition if your career should lead you away from your present location.

That being said, marketing majors are unlike other business majors in several ways. They tend to be a lot of fun, and are, in my experience, very out going. Marketing majors don't generally make as much as other business students, (there are lots of statistics on this, and this might not be that important to you) but that's the price some people are willing to pay to not have to do accounting for 50 hours a week.

Many find physical therapy to be a very rewarding career path. DPT programs (doctor of physical therapy) are pretty competitive, and many undergrads who intend to become DPT's eventually find themselves pursuing other things such as nursing. I don't mean to discourage you though. If you work hard and apply yourself, you could be one of many students who earn a spot in a program.

You will love college! Good luck:)
