Masters Degree In Physical Therapy
Chad Said:
Physical Therapy Masters Degree?We Answered:
There are only a handful of Master's degree programs for PT in the US...nearly all have changed to the DPT (doctorate), and those who haven't are in the process of changing. That being said, to get a PT degree, it is now usually 6-7 years...7 in a traditional format of 4 years of undergraduate with 3 graduate years or 6 in an accelerated program/guaranteed admit with 3 years undergraduate and 3 years graduate. The APTA website has helpful information for students.

Why go backwards? Look into master's programs in nursing.Donna Said:
How long would it take to get your degree in Physical therapy? We Answered:
First of all you become a PT not an LPT. Yes you need to get licensed but you do not put it in front. Second basically the entry level degree is the DPT (a clinical doctorate). The MPT programs are being phased out and will be by the time you are ready to apply if you are still in HS. It takes 4 years to get a BS plus 3 years of grad school for PT for a total of 7. There are a few direct admit programs for 6 years. The process is the following
1. Get a BS degree in anything--common ones include kinesiology, health science, rehab science, ATC, and exercise science. I do not recommend Bio as a major because there are too many difficult courses that are not relevant such as botany.
2. Earn a 3.5 gpa or better
3. Take your Require at many PT schools
4. Volunteer at a PT clinic-require by all PT schools
5. Take your pre reqs--one year of gen bio, gen chem, gen physics, and A and P, math potentially up to calc, psy, and stats. I would also recommend cadaver anatomy, kinesiology, and exercise physiology.
6. apply to PT schools
