Ny Physical Therapy

Esther Said:

is there any way to convert an NY Physical therapy license into other Physical therapy state license?

We Answered:

You have to follow the application process for the state in which you hope to apply. You can find the licensing authority for each state at: www.fsbpt.org

Applying for another state can involve several steps:
1. Filling out an application for endorsement. This is an application and fee just to have the board LOOK at your application (I'm currently applying for reciprocity in NJ and this is costing me $125 for just this step).
2. You need to contact the NPTE to have your exam scores transferred ($80)
3. You need to have the state in which you currently hold a license verify your license ($20 where I live).
4. You might also need to complete the following: criminal background checks, finger printing and/or juricprudence exam...all of which may have their own separate fees.
5. If approved, you pay the state to issue you a new license (yet another fee).

It's a costly and timely process.

Physical Therapy Program in Mercy College, NY?

We Answered:

This is an interesting program because it caters to the adult learner by offering the format in a full-time WEEKEND format. This is quite unusual for a PT program. I am not sure how long they've been running the program this way, but it does seem to be a "crash course" method of learning...which makes me skeptical.

While most professional phase programs are 3 years in length, I doubt this one would culminate in the DPT in three years. St. Augustine in FL offers a similar format, but it is spread out over four years. The information listed on the APTA website about Mercy College makes no mention of how long this program is.

I would definetely ask the department how long they've been running in this format and what is their first pass rate for people who've done it in this format.

Good luck.
