Pediatric Physical Therapy
Raul Said:
What are some good schools to study pediatric physical therapy? We Answered:
Any school that has a physical therapy program would give you a basis for entering pediatric physical therapy. However, since you live in IL, I would recommend you consider Northwestern University. I think they have some faculty that are quite good. Just realize that you don't have to do your undergraduate and graduate degree in the same place. (I'm only saying this because at about $33,000 a year, spending 7 years to become a PT comes with a heavy price tag). UIC and Midwestern in Downer's Grove also have great programs. Northern Illinois also has had a well established PT program that has now obtained the DPT status. Bradley remains a solid program as well.Richard Said:
What do i need to do in order to become a Pediatric Physical Therapy Practitioner? We Answered:
To become a PT you can major in anything as long as you complete the pre reqs. These include one year of gen chem, gen physics, gen bio, A and P, math potentially up to calc, stats, and psy. If you are intrested in peds you may also take intro to special ed and developmental psy.You need to get about a 3.5 gpa and may need to take the gre depending on the school. Then apply to a DPT program
Once you get into PT school, you learn all of specialities. You would definately do a pediatric clinical intership and focus your research on a pediatric topic.
Best wishes

how long does it take to get ur doctorate in pediatric physical therapy? We Answered:
A DPT is generally 3 years beyond a BS degree. A degree in physical therapy is a generalist degree. You learn all of the areas of PT. If you are intersted in pediatrics, you would definately do a pediattric clinical and focus your research in pediatrics. Once you graduate, you would take continuing education courses in the area of intersted. Also, some PT choose to take the ABPTS speciality exam to become board certified.www.apta.org

Pediatric physical therapy...?We Answered:
The above poster is correct, you must first become a regular physical therapist. This is usually a competitive entrance program where you take your prerequisite courses during your undergraudate years. This usually involves a lot of chemistry, physics, biology, psychology and math. You then apply for admission sometime during your junior or senior year of college for entrance into a master's or doctorate level program.Once in the program, you take more specific physical therapy courses, some of which should include neurological development and/or pediactrics. You might also get a chance to do a pediatric rotation...but be aware that many people try to seek to do one.
Other than that, there is no specific requirement for becoming a pediatric physical therapist...although it is recommended you complete further continuing education once you are a PT if you hope to do so.

research paper on pediatric physical therapy? We Answered:
Sometimes when I can't figure out my thesis in the beginning, I just start writing and see where it takes me. Then, I figure out what my thesis was after I've written a significant part of the paper. For a paper that long, I would suggest you start doing your research first. Find out as much as you can about the field.. What do they do specifically? What's involved for schooling? What can a typical day be like? Check out www.apta.org too to read about the PT profession in general.
