Pet Physical Therapy

Ross Said:

Do I have other options for thoracic spinal radiology?

We Answered:

One procedure you didn't list is a myelogram. It involves the injection of dye into the sac that surrounds the spinal cord & nerves followed by an CT. Radiologists can get a really good look at the nerves that way. I know they can diagnose disc rupture & compression using a myelogram when other scans fail to show a problem. Bone scans can detect fractures that might not otherwise show too.

If $$$ were no object, & your pet was injured, would U take them 4 physical therapy? Maybe at place like this:?

We Answered:

Of course I would. If the medicine I was using for my pet didn't seem to be working, I would contact one of those vets and ask them to help.

I need to tell the woman I work for about this. One of her horses just hurt her muscles by rolling while wearing a two-handled surcingle (that's kind of like a strap with two big handles that you can put on a horse, it's used for trick riding). She has another horse that's starting to get really arthritic too. They'd probably benefit greatly from these treatments!
Thanks!

Animal Assisted Therapy?

We Answered:

Begin with where/ how this therapy originated. Also include how popular it is/ how and where is it most utilized. Other studies on the subject, etc... Try google scholar. They have plenty of professional articles/ journals.

Joan Said:

If I want to be an animal massage therapist or provide animals with physical therapy?

We Answered:

There are many applications of massage for animals - sporting dogs, zoo animals who are stressed, horses require massage for dealing with injuries and performance in any of the areas.

You have to find out what is required to work with animals and do massage. You might have to get your massage license first to work with people.

Jay Said:

What kinds of pets/animals are used in Animal Assisted Therapy?

We Answered:

I think the range is quite large, especially if you are considering bringing an animal to a hospital/ home like setting and allowing many people to spend time with it (as opposed to having the animal actually perform work like a guide dog). I know I've heard of dogs, cats, birds, and bunnies being used. Probably anything with a good personality that enjoys people.

Do "hot spots" on a PET scan always indicate cancer?

We Answered:

Whether or not it is cancer or not, it is too early to tell. You will have to wait until they have finished testing and probably biopsied one or more of the hot spots.

Hot spots on a PET scan can be caused by things other than cancer. Inflammation, as you mentioned, also sarcoidosis, an autoimmune disease that usually starts in the lungs. Infections and even arthritis will light up on a PET scan. I am sure there are other things besides these that will also cause false positives.

Does he have symptoms besides shoulder pain? Wheezing? asthma-like symptoms? Symptoms of sarcoidosis can be very similar to those of cancer. A bronchoscopy would tell you for sure if this was cancer or possibly sarcoidosis.

Have a pet? Good for you! Know why?

We Answered:

True... Because of my dog, I am getting back in shape and have not needed my inhaler in a year and a half. My anemia is also getting much better and I'm not having to watch how much iron and protein I'm taking in every day. I've also taken on the pitbull mentality and gotten more confident and won't back down when my parents start fighting with me every day. If I didn't have Rock I would probably be dead by now.
