Physical Therapy Aide Training

Erin Said:

How to get medical experience?

We Answered:

The easiest might be CMA. Or, become an EMT.

The experience needs to be direct patient care. That's what schools look for.

Here's a link to a couple of books. I read the first one:

Physical Therapy?

We Answered:

I would think so. My sister is a PTA and she used to work with a girl that helped out around the clinic while she was still in school. Granted, she didn't have a lot of responsibilities at the clinic... but hey, gotta start somewhere.

I need help deciding on a career choice between cota and pta?

We Answered:

I would say this is an overgenerous estimate, unless it was an add for a staffing agency or you live in California (even then perhaps still a little over inflated). I would say these salaries are more consistent with a PT or OT degree.

According to a 2005 survey by the APTA, most PTAs were earning between $35-45,000 a year or roughly $17-21/hr.

I'm sure it's a little more now, but not at the level you listed above.

Would be happy to review any adds you have seen and I could critique them by e-mail.

Vera Said:

What is the diff btwn a Physical Therapy tech and a PT aide?

We Answered:

A tech and an aide are the same thing. They are both unlicensed and typically on the job trained personnel. Pay is typically a few dollars more than minimum wage...although there are some "certificate" programs available (although totally not necessary)

An ASSISTANT on the other hand, is usually a licensed professional with a minimum of an associates degree. Pay is typically $35-50,000 a year.
