Jeanette Said:

Do you have to be physically fit and in shape to be an occupational or physical therapist?

We Answered:

You do not have to be a "sports minded individual." PT and OT are about the restoration of function and ability to overcome disability...it's not a personal fitness trainer.

However, considering our profession and committment to health, it would benefit the PT or OT to at least maintain a healthy lifestyle. If we are going to promote to our patients to exercise, we should at least being doing something ourselves (even if it's just comittement to a walking program).

However, to say the very least, there are some PTs who specialize in sports medicine....for them, it would benefit them to have an interest in sports. This, however, is only a very small percentage of PTs.

Finally, even though one does not have to be a sports nut or in top physical shake, a PT or OT should be able to do at least the following: spend the majority of your day standing, able to multitask, be able to lift 50 pounds occasionally.

physical therapy and the military?

We Answered:

UPDATED: The program is offered jointly through Baylor University and Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. It offers a DPT in exchange for appointment as a military officer. It is pretty competetive and the bulk of attendees have some prior military service though it is not required. My sister had contemplated a similar program that was offered through Texas Women's College for an MPT (she has a Bachelor's in P.T. from LSU before they transistioned to a Master's only program), but found that it was really tough to get into, and she really prefered geriatrics to orthopedics. Elmer Said:

Exercise science or Physical therapist ?

We Answered:

Yes, exercise science should be a fine major to transition to either a MS or DPT level PT program. Just make sure you complete all the prerequisite coursework even if it is not a part of your BS degree.

Good luck

Did anyone got treatment for herniated disc's by ozone therapy. Please share your experiences.?

We Answered:

"Ozone therapy" is one of the latest scams out there.

If it worked, then you'd be offered this in hospitals or by your doctor. There is absolutely no evidence that it has any benefits whatsoever.

Don't get conned; consult a properly qualified medical doctor or specialist.
