Physical Therapy Assistant Certification

Zachary Said:

Becoming at Physical Therapy Assistant?

We Answered:

I agree with Mary, if you already have a BS degree, no reason to step down complete an AA...unless you cannot afford to go back to school to complete the PT prerequisites and the PT graduate degree.

Personal traning will not really be of much benefit in the PT world unless you are already a PT and working in a sports med setting. Personal training is primarily based on well-adult fitness and not the disease model process which is 99% of your patient load.

Your only option around taking a PTA course is if you live in California you can petition to take the PTA exam if you've been a PT tech for some length of time (can't remember if is 18 or 36 months) and you have a handful of college credits. But I suppose if you are going to spend that much time being a tech, might as well go to school for the PTA program.

I cannot really think of anything else in rehab for which your degree qualifies you...sorry.

What can I do with an EKG certification besides nursing?

We Answered:

If you like human anatomy you could try Life Insurance underwriting. The Certified Life Underwriter (CLU) is a great way to start. Life underwriting is very competitive and you could take your EKG experience and add a niche to underwriting by interpreting normal vs. abnormal EKG's. Good luck

Rodney Said:

chiropractor assistant? ?

We Answered:

A DC assistant is an unlicensed tech comparable to a PT tech. Just be very wary that they don't ask you to use any of your therapist skills on the job or that they advertise as providing "physical therapy" or you could be viewed as practicing without a license. It would be much better for your resume if you got a job as a PT tech or doing office work for a PT practice. Since you are already a skilled therapist, I would recommend trying for a back office job since even most US trained therapists lack this knowledge.
