Physical Therapy Assistant Job

Darren Said:

Would a person majoring in exercise science be able to get a job as a Physical Therapy assistant?

We Answered:

No because the PTA is generally a licensed profession and requires board examination and graduating from an accredited PTA program. Although not every state requires licensure for PTAs, PTA specific coursework is required.

However, you can get a job as a rehab technician/aide. It doesn't pay much, but is good experience if you want to become a PT or PTA. I know that in Califorina, you can petition to take the boards for the PTA licensure after you've been an aide for 3 years and have taken a handful of courses that are described in the state law.

If you are majoring in exercise science, this can be a precursor to entrance into the graduate level PT program...good luck
