You might want to look into your local community college. Most of them have websites where you can read about each program, and see the course outline. There are usually 2 nursing programs- a 2-yr degree that will let you sit for the nursing exam to become a registered nurse. On average, an RN makes about $55,000 a year working as a staff nurse in a hospital.There is also the option of the Practical Nurse, LPN, LVN (liscenced practical/vocational nurse.) The schooling usually takes about 3 semesters worth of classes. LPNs make about $35,000 on average. The coursework will be easier than that of an RN, but you will be doing more of the grunt work- changing bed pans, etc. The RN is in charge of the LPN and consults with doctors and also does a lot of paperwork.

I would suggest a junior college they give more one on one. It would be a good experience since it's been a while since you've been in school. My fiance too decided to go back to school and one of the first classes he took was online and he thought it was a big mistake because there wasn't anyone to ask questions to. He has had much more success in classrooms.
