Physical Therapy Assistant Salaries

Stephanie Said:

Why do Physical Therapy Assistants Prn get paid more than Physical Therapists?

We Answered:

This is incorrect. Someone must have put a couple extra zeros in and skewed the data on the survery. It just impossible to make even as much as a PT- even PRN.

Gloria Said:

How much can a Physical Therapy Assistant expect to earn in the first year?

We Answered:

For more general info on physical therapist assistant: http://www.bls.gov/oco and search 'physical therapist assistant'. (It's a separate job than a pt 'aide' just fyi :) The prereq courses usually include physics and the job is quite 'physical' in nature.

Jessie Said:

Why the heck does a physical therapy assistant make $100, 000/yr and a phys. therapist make only 70,000?

the biggest problem is the source you are using to get your information.

if you want accurate figures use the US Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Employment Statistics at:
http://data.bls.gov/oes/search.jsp?data_…

in the US top 10% of PTs average $104,350.00 a year

Lonnie Said:

Is there opportunities to work part time as a medical assistant or a physical therapy assistant?

We Answered:

Becoming a PTA requires an associate's degree from an accredited college PTA program and most states require passing of state board exams for licensure.

It is always possible to do shift work at the hospital, though I must say that your best bet for part-time work (with the highest earning potential) would be to do home health therapy.

I don't know much about the medical assistant pay/hours--sorry!

Doctorgt3 - It is NOT nearly the same level of schooling for PT as for a PTA. PTA's graduate from an asssociate's level program (2 years) then sit for state board exams. PT programs are Master's level (6 years) with many programs moving to Doctorate level (8 years) then the graduate can sit for state board exams.
