Physical Therapy Assistant Schools

Janice Said:

Need Help with school for Physical Therapy Assistant and Physical Therapist?

We Answered:

they are different degrees.

A PTA is a 2 year degree at a community college. As the name implies, they assist a PT.

A PT earns either a MS /MPT or a DPT. A DPT is either a 3+3 program or a BS+3 years. This is the wave of the future. The APTA as mandated that all programs change over by 2020 but most have already converted. If you find a masters program, they are either 5 years or BS plus 2.

There are only 2 bridge programs in the entire country. With that said, I work with a PTA. She went right out of school to get her PTA. She is now working. She took a third year at community college to get her pre reqs done. She has transfered over to finish her bachelors. She will then do the 3 year program. She was waved out of a few classes. She will have a tremendous advantages in many of her classes because she sees the theory in practice at office. She is also making more than she would as a typical college students. Our office works around her school schedule.

But I would talk to all of the schools specifically to look into that.

Please email me if you have further questions.

Annette Said:

what gpa do u need to get into physical therapy and physicain assistant schools?

We Answered:

Yes, 3.0 is a typical GPA for minimum requirements to get into a PT program. However, in some top tier schools (where As lend more weight), the minimum GPA is often 2.75...but the quality of the school at which you completed your undergraduate degree will often be counted. Furthermore, although 3.0 is the typical minimum requirement, those admitted into the program often have a score much higher than 3.0...often 3.5 or above.

GRE scores vary.
