Physical Therapy College

Shawn Said:

Physical therapy in college and as a career?

We Answered:

It will probably take about 6-7 years to become a Physical Therapist, as they require at least a master’s degree.

You would be able to work at a hospital, a nursing home, schools, rehabilitation centers, etc. You could work with children, adults, or the elderly.

Some of the courses that will help you in HS and college include:
Anatomy & Physiology I and II
Biology
Chemistry
Statistics
Algebra
Nutrition
Physics

You will also have your physical therapy type classes, which include some upper Physiology, Musculoskeletal PT, Cardiovascular and Pulm PT, etc.

You have the option of attending a college that has an undergrad/MS program combined. Or you can major in almost any degree, then apply to a PT masters program. Psychology or Sciences are probably a good degree to pursue, just make sure you do the pre-reqs that a particular program requires.

PT makes 65,000 - 70,000 annually.

For more info, read this: http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos080.htm

And here is just a sample of what a PT program entails. This is a school near me, in which you can have fun and explore the PT page for ideas of what they do. There might even be some videos on the site. http://www.tju.edu/jchp/pt/

Gail Said:

I'm a Jamaican student and I want to study either Physical Therapy or Pharmacy in college in the US?

We Answered:

Both of those degrees are graduate level degrees. For pharmacy, many of the colleges do not accept international students.

Joyce Said:

What is a good college/university for studying physical therapy?

We Answered:

The national organization of PT --the apta. has a list of accredited schools. www.apta.org. Best wishes.
