Physical Therapy For Children
Harold Said:
children with therapy?We Answered:
Thank you. It means a lot to hear some one else who gives parents a lot of credit. My daughter is 4 almost 5 and has recently been diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy. Looking at her you would never know, but she has balance issues. She doesn't run, jump, skip, hop and cannot stand on one foot or walk backwards. Stairs are almost impossible. My daughter goes to PT once a week, OT twice a week and starts speech therapy next week. She is amazing and wonderful. It too hurts me to see other children whoare worse than my daughter. My daughter even has begun to realize those who are worse than her and has talked to them and told them she wishes they could get better like she will. It is heartbreaking to hear, but at least we know that she doesn't self pity. Thank you again for you kind words.Bonnie Said:
Has anyone had experience with their children having developmental delay needing physical therapy? We Answered:
There are many things that could be the culprit, more than likely your doctor didn't tell you because he doesn't know at this point. Just because there's a problem with her arms, does not mean that there is a problem with the rest of her body. It's great that the rest of her development is on key!It could have to do with a range of things anywhere from a weakness to a pain in her arms that makes it so she doesn't use them. She could also have an issue with her muscles not expanding and stretching like they're supposed to. There's no real way to tell really with an eval. Sometimes, children will learn to walk and skip the crawling and rolling over part completely due to issues with their body not being strong enough to actually learn to crawl. Just like it is harder for you to crawl around, it's harder for babies as well.
While you are waiting, do some activities to assist her in developing strength. Arm exercises, extension, and massage is a great thing you can do for 5 minutes a couple times throughout the day. If she's playing with toys, get playdough for her and mold with her. Shaving cream on teh table to draw with, or even picking up and releasing toys will help her.
When you get to the PT, ask for activities you can do at home with her. This is really important because if you don't get the problem solved, she will have issues in schooling that will require intervention, including problems with her writing. Especially since you're saying it's a smaller community, the teachers and schools will often struggle with children that have specialized needs.

At what age should physical therapy begin for a child with clubfeet? We Answered:
Asap!! My mother was born with club feet. Her parents didn't start doing anything with her untill she was around 2 or 3. Eventually her feet were corrected but now she has balance problems and severe hip and back pain. she had a doctor tell her if she had gotten treatment earlier for the problem she wouldn't have as many problems as she does now. So get your baby therepy now. I am sorry for your troubles and you and your baby will be in my prayers.Tamara Said:
So tomorrow I am going to go to children's home and do physical therapy....?We Answered:
First, good for you for doing your shadowing. Second, it's somewhat normal at your age to feel these feelings, and it's good that you recognize that they need to change. Exposure is one of the best ways to do this. This will be a chance for you to learn and grow as a person....sometimes finding common ground with children is helpful for communicating with them. What games are children playing in your area, what are popular books, what music are the kids in your area listening to? Most of these kids enjoy similar things that able bodied children enjoy. Having something to talk about can make both of you more comfortable.

physical therapy for paralegic children? We Answered:
paraplegic? what is the question? will it enable them to walk? Not overly likely but to a certain degree neurons may be able to be reprogrammed and heal (but not to a large degree). Children are able to heal faster and better in general than adults. A more specific question would be better.Sometimes they do physical therapy on paralyzed people so that the muscles can be stretched every day so that the muscles will not shorten, causing what is called contractures...
