Physical Therapy For Knee Pain
Jose Said:
Physical therapy isn't working for my knee pain.?We Answered:
If you've been falling, it may or may not be related to your knee pain. If you were sent to PT because of falling, but not necessarily your knee, the first thing that may need to happen is for the therapist to evaluate the knee (depending on the laws in your state). It's quite possible that something related to your knee pain could be making you fall. In cases like these, it's often related to knee buckling which can be caused by a number of things such as either a ligamentous instability or a knee pain that is being referred from the back such as a nerve root compression. If your knee pain is not related to your history of falling and your state does not allow the therapist to perform an evaluation on it, then you should definitely return to the physician.
Jane Said:
how will physical therapy help my knee?We Answered:
Usually, physical therapy builds up the muscles around the problem area, giving it more support so it is not taking too much pressure in one spot, but rather the area around it. It is always best to try PT before going under the knife, as you don't know what problems may occur after surgery. Give it a try, if it gets better, great. If not, the problem may worsen and then surgery may be justified and any damage may be seen on an MRICharlotte Said:
Too late for physical therapy? Old knee injury.?We Answered:
While it may not be too late, I would suggest that you follow up with an orthopedist prior to resuming PT...a lot of changes may have taken place over the years...some of which could potentially be made worse by PT.Good luck and hopefully PT is all you need.

Stopping physical therapy even if I can't run, do stairs, and have pain?We Answered:
I also had surgery done. I had arthoscopic surgery to repair the meniscus. I am going on 3 months now since it and still stiff and in pain. The dr took me off Pt because the range and all was much better. However the quads were still very weak. He has ordered me to go back for another 6 weeks 3x wk.In your case PT is there to help, however you need to try to do things on your own and do the exercises they suggest you do at home. Yes you will still be in pain. Therapy can not stop the pain, However, they can help to recovery. I am sorry to hear that and do hope you get better.
I still can not ride a bike or run or even jog without a great deal of pain. The meds don't help but what I do is to keep my mind occupied with other things like writing reading playing games or even walking, take a break and walk some more. Yes there are days where it will feel worse especially if it cold out. Everyone heals differently.
I hope this helps a little bit. Get better soon.

Knee pain that won't go away!?We Answered:
Hi, I just had ACL reconstruction for a second time on the same knee. I had to have it a second time because I re-tore my ACL playing soccer. There are cases where the ACL doesnt properly heal and you will need to have surgery again to repair it. However, if the MRI didnt show your ACL torn than its likely not the ACL. It could be a number of other things, if possible rest and ice it for a few days to see if there is any change. Is the pain constant or is it due to clicking and popping? If it is the clicking and popping that causes the pain there may be meniscus damage which has to be cleaned up with a simple scope surgery.

Physical therapy for my knee?We Answered:
Sometimes physicians forget how many times they've referred people to PT. It annoys us as much as it annoys the patients when someone who has failed to make improvements just keep getting sent back to PT when it obviously is not the answer. So the first thing you need to do is to remind her that you've been to PT 3 times already without benefit.
The next issue is to find out why you are having persistent pain...you make no mention if your physician is an othropedist or not, but it may be time for one and/or further investigation.
