Physical Therapy For Neck Pain

Neck pain, dizziness and internal trembling feeling

BPPV is very easy to rule out in the physical therapy clinic with the Dix-HallPike test. It would be very unusual to have BPPV and have this very simple test come out negative that only takes a few seconds to administer. If you do have BPPV, it usually very easily treated. If your PT doesn't do this maneuver, as them to recommend someone who does.

I think Cymbalta is definetely a reasonable treatment to try. Anxiety can minimic pretty much all of your symptoms.

Any double vision, difficulty speaking, or swallowing, or fainting spells? Especially after looking up? If these symptoms accompany your neck pain, if you smoke, have a family history of vascular disease, it may be time to discuss vascular testing with your physician such as a carotid doppler and/or MRA. You are a little young for this, but certainly something to keep in the back of your mind.

You are seeing all the right types of specialists...however, if something comes up with vascular testing, I think your physician would probably refer you to a vascular surgeon.

How long does it have to take till someone can figure out why Im still having neck pain after a car wreck ??

We Answered:

No...do not wear a cervical collar...that's the worst thing you can do for yourself.

If you pain is local at the center of the spine and your MRIs are clear, you must rest assured that you WILL recover from this. If you worry that it will go on forever, it WILL. Ligaments take a long time to heal due to the poor blood supply.

Posture correction and regular movement should take care of the problem. I cannot emphasize the importance of posture enough.

neck pain and physical therapy?!?

We Answered:

I went to PT after my neck surgery and I found it very beneficial. My Physical Therapist had me on a reverse bike thing that you moved with arms (instead of peddle with your feet). You sit and go forwards with your arm like you're peddling a bike with your arms. Also, I did various weight training to strengthen the neck - the theory is strengthen your arms and shoulders benefits the neck. I found it helped - the Physical Therapist will design a routine for your specific injury and physical therapy usually lasts about 45 minutes each session.

After I completed my exercises my physical therapist would put me on a tens unit for 15 minutes (I always had it with cold) and it really helps to relax the neck. I like it because it helps the pain without medication. I would leave physical therapy feeling so good. =)

Good luck with Physical Therapy! =)
