Physical Therapy For Scoliosis

Jason Said:

What will they do at physical therapy?

We Answered:

Your physician can refer you to a licensed physical therapist.
Quite often, depending on the size of the facility, you will be in a large room with other patients and other PT's and staff will be around.

If you are not comfortable with a male PT then you can request a woman. Also, it's just like with a doctor, if you don't like them or get along well with them you can find or request someone else.

You'll be asked to wear loose and comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely like a tee shirt and yoga pants.
Physical therapy involves stretching and strengthening exercises that you will be instructed to do and may include massages or some type of brace. It just depends.

There's nothing to be afraid of. They just make you work a lot and if there are other people around you get used to it.

Physical Therapy for scoliosis? What are some exercises that help with adult scoliosis?

We Answered:

Ask your spine doctor to check the status of your scoliosis. Following the appropriate medical work-up, ask for a PT evaluation, so you can be placed on an appropriate PT program.

Phase 1 focuses on education, posture, and flexibility to decrease pain. Phase 2 emphasizes strength and fitness activities to improve function by working on your core muscles. This will help with the soreness.

Physical therapy for uneven hips from Scoliosis?

We Answered:

Hi! I'm younger than you and I have the same problem, because I have mild scoliosis. Everything you've stated is everything I have, but when I visit the doctors for my spine, they said its common, and the only thing that's easy and will help me, is if I force my lower shoulder to meet up with my high shoulder when I walk or stand so that it'll even out. If my scoliosis gets worse, I'll have to wear a brace so my back can straighten out. Just ask about it to your doctor, the next time you visit for your scoliosis.

How can scoliosis get better with out treatment?

We Answered:

How did they check you? Did they use an x-ray and meausre the Cobb angle, or did they use a clinical method such as an inclinometer. The Cobb method is the standard method and has been shown to be reliable and valid...other methods have not been deemed as such. Therefore, unless they took x-rays to measure it, chances are it is what is called a "measurement error"...in other words, the measurement device or technique may not give consistent results...this may be especially true if you had a different person measuring it this time.

What will happen in physical therapy?

okay well first they will assess your pain and problem. then they may massage your neck and back. then they may show you some exercises or strengthening moves to help strengthen your neck/back and relieve pain.

Does Medicaid support paying for physical therapy?

We Answered:

It depends on your state. Usually yes, or at least yes but with some limitations (might only be 6 visits). However, it will be challenging to find a clinic who accepts it. A larger not for profit or a county hospital is your best bet.

What do they do in physical therapy for back?

We Answered:

Janice, wear something that is loose and comfortable for you. The therapist is going to be asking you to perform certain movements, stretch you to see how flexible you are, test your strength in the arms, legs, and torso, along with some simple neurological examination. They will probably show you a home program that they want you to do to help you maintain your new posture. Each visit will be somewhat different depending upon what they find and what the doctor has ordered. Your program should be a lot of exercise and hopefully somewhere down the line resistive exercises. The resistive exercises are so important to you for they are going to keep your posture but also make it easier for you to function. They should also be working to improve your cardiovascular system to make you more fit. Good luck and I am sure that you will benefit greatly from it!
