Physical Therapy For Stroke Patients

Joseph Said:

Can UK-trained Osteopaths Cure Baldness?

We Answered:

Lightning, after all that you didn't answer the question. Do osteopaths believe osteopathic manipulation can cure baldness?

I have a personal interest...

-------
EDIT: @Goodhealth Surfing, no - that wasn't the question buddy. In any case I don't see any claims here that 'conventional' medicine can cure baldness, so you are setting up a strawman and that is NOT the logic used in the skeptical process. FAIL.

Physics Problems: Equilibrium?

We Answered:

if you want to get answer i suggest you to put question short and sweet, no one feels like solving 3 difficult questions to get 10 points.
I don't think anyone will answer your question.
So, ask 3 separate question.
So for now, chose this as the best answer (you will regain 5 points).

Bernard Said:

my wife suffered a stroke monday. a week before the stroke, she said she kept falling, could have this been a.

We Answered:

Ok one step at a time.
Possibly the falling was a warning sign, but nothing to beat yourself up about, could have been an ear thing, a simple cold, or nothing more than a change of barometric pressure that caused it.
Yes a stroke can cause mental problems, a stroke is really just a part of the brain suddenly dying, no telling what the results may be, from almost none at all, to total loss of bodily or mental control.
CT scans while being a fairly good test are not perfect, simply because they don't make them look everywhere, just in the most likely spots. So, the dye in the radiology scan pointed to the spot of the clot.
If she has been declared incompetent (ie a ward of the state) yes you can make her.

Now, key points, don't fell bad about possible warning signs, there was nothing anyone would have done even if you took her to a doctor. Tests are just that, testing things...they don't have all the answers. Be careful what you force upon your wife, you want to make sure she's still your wife when all is said and done.

Best of luck

How could you reverse the process of contraction in stroke patient? Are there therapies which can help this?

We Answered:

Accupuncture doesn't work for this.
You can't reverse the contractures, but you can treat them. You can take oral meds which will relax all the muscles but the meds are quite sedating which will not be good for an 84 yo woman. You can also inject the affected muscles with Botox, which is very effective. The kind of doc that specializes in treating this stroke-related spasticity with Botox is usually a Physiatrist --- ie an M.D. with specialty in Rehab. Search for local physiatrists with special training in stroke, then ask if they give Botox... that is your best bet.

Mike Said:

Does this describe equine therapy to you?

We Answered:

I am going to be picky because it is good!

Why is the horse thankful for the carrot, would it not be better to say delicately or tenderly. A horse can't eat a carrot from a riders hand (Unless they are very flexible!!) ...from his young eager hand or young outstretched hand.

...... by offering them a chance to know they can succeed. Sometimes it is even just the smallest things, like holding a brush and slowly brushing a gentle horse. Thanks to many therapy horses and the people they work with, people have been able to gain more muscle.......
(I would put the other physical things here - motor skills and balance)
However the biggest thing their families notice, is not the physical, but the mental changes. The change in outlook, the higher self esteem and self confidence.

I would also mention the pride they get in bonding with the horses.

The therapists helping these children know that they brighten someones day, but also know that what they do makes a fundamental difference - not just to the patients lives, but also those of there families and carers.
.
.
,I hope this all makes sense! I think it is great btw - it really sells what it is to be an therapist!

Discuss It!
