You have my deepest sympathy for your (and your gf's) situation. You deserve a great deal of credit for caring and trying to get her as much help as possible.In California it is virtually impossible for you, as a third-party individual (your gf and either a mental health professional or a law enforcement officer would be the first and second parties) to involuntarily commit someone for a 72-hr. "5150" hold (5150 relates to the section of the CA Health&Safety code).
The code is very clear that an individual must be considered an immediate threat to themselves or others.
Continue supporting and caring about your girlfriend. Continue to monitor her behavior. Do everything possible to assure that she stays in frequent contact with her therapist.
Realize that you, I, and the rest of the world are not privy to the information and findings that come from the sessions she has with her therapist. Trust that her therapist is monitoring the situation and directing the sessions in order to achieve the best outcome for your girlfriend - whether or not involuntary commitment becomes a part of that outcome.
