It will depend on how large is the clinic as to your actual scope of duties, but beyond answering the phone, you can probably expect to schedule patients, fax, file and possibly some light maintence tasks such as stocking linins, doing early morning equipment checks (checking the temperatue on the hot pack machine), etc. You might also fall into a category of a tech where you might do some small patient related tasks such as preparing a hot pack, cold pack, etc. This will depend on if the clinic has a separete "tech" for those tasks or not.

Call a private practice. They generally are the easiest. They are busy but you need to be persistent. Ask to talk to the volunteer coordinator or CCCE. We take volunteers and students for observation hours. My boss is notorious for taking weeks to call people back. It is not high on her very long to do list. If you call me the CCCE, I get back to students in a few days. My to do list is a little shorter.

You should investigate a local PTA program in your area. Go to www.apta.org to find a list of accredited PTA programs.

In the meantime, you can apply for a job as a physical therapy technician/aide. It doesn't pay much, but is a good experience.

2 inches for a tail is pretty long; if the tail is so long in that it appears to be "flowy", then it's a male. Females have much shorter tail fins that do not get half as full as a male's.
