Physical therapy exercises to strengthen my knee?We Answered:
Well, I think you mean you have dislocated your kneecap/patella. A dislocated knee is a very serious injury that usually causes damage to such structures as the ACL. A dislocated patella is much more common, is typically treated with a rehab routine, and occurs often in active females. I have done it and have been to physical therapy for it. First, you should be evaluated by a physical therapist or orthopedist. You need to focus on VMO (the inner portion of the thigh) strengthening so you can regain a good pull on the kneecap, stabilize it, and keep it tracking properly. Exercises for this can include quad sets, straight leg raises, terminal knee extensions, and then step ups and minisquats when you have some flexion.
If you need to get the range of motion back in your knee, try heel slides, active assisted motion, wall slides with your feet, etc.
Ice to reduce swelling which can also help with pain.
A physical therapist could also tape your patella in place so it tracks proplery.
Once get enough knee flexion, bicycle riding is good. I do it in physical therapy. It's not too rough on the knees and strengthens.
Make sure you also stretch esp. the lateral part of your quadriceps to keep it from pulling on your kneecap.

Here's a link about rehab for patella femoral dysfunction which can range from patella pain to dislocations. Google patella dislocation rehab and you will get a ton.
Also, you should find out why it dislocated. Was it a twisting motion, direct hit, or other? Sometimes it's due to wide hips, flat feet, misaligned knees, shallow grooves, tight lateral tissues, lax medial tissues etc. Some of these things may need to be addressed.
To return to sport, you need full motion, little to no swelling and pain, and at least 85% strength in the bad leg as the good.
Good Luck :]

My Grandma recently fell and fractured her hip. She is refusing Physical Therapy.?We Answered:
This might certainly be explained by a bad reaction to a medication which is common in the elderly. Anesthesia and narcotics can cause personality changes, hallucinations, paranoia, etc. If this is not your grandmother's normal personality, I would bring it up with her physician and try a medication change if possible. Or, if due to anesthesia, the behaviors may simply wear away with time. Please talk with her surgeon or physician.

Do epideral shots or physical therapy work for lower lumbar disc disease can it keep a soldier from medboard? We Answered:
AR 40-501 is your best guide to medical issues in the Army. The part that refers to your husband's situation is section 3-39.Typically, if a soldier is on profile for 1 year with no resolution expected, he is a candidate for a medical evaluation board (MEB). Important questions to ask are:
1) Can he do his job? An 11B w/ back pain has more problems than a 25U with back pain.
2) Can he perform 5a. thru 5e. on the DA 3349?
3) Can he take and pass a APFT, even if it's an alternate event (walk, for example)?
4) Does his unit like him? I know this shouldn't matter, but it does, because the Commander's Evaluation is a big part of the MEB process.
If you can answer those questions, I can tell you much more.
In regards to your other questions, epidural shots rarely correct lower back pain permanently, especially for people in the Army who go right back to doing the things that injured them. Physical therapy won't fix the problem, but it can correct the symptoms IF the patient is motivated and compliant.
And just to prove I know what I'm talking about, I'm gonna try to perform a magic trick. I predict that the disc your husband is having problems with is L5-S1 OR L4-L5. But probably the first one. Am I right?

PHYSICAL THERAPY EXERCISES PICTURES?We Answered:
Most of us use a software program that is licensed and protected (VH-I). Therefore, exercise programs are custom made and rearranged as is appropriate...the pictures are copyrighted, so it's not likely to find everything all in one spot in a nice convenient page that you can download off the internet.I would just call your therapist...it shouldn't be a problem at all for them to reprint them.

Who out there is a physical therapist? We Answered:
Most PT schools require a bachelors degree jsut to be admitted. You also need to get a lot of volunteer hours at PT clinics or PT settings in a hospital.Research the schools carefully, especially the faculty. Some schools are much better than others, despite what others have said (Oakland is NOT a spin-off of Michigan State either). Look for schools with faculty that have board specializations (OCS, SCS, NCS, PCS, GCS). These require a very high degree of training to achieve, and usually indicate a high level of knowledge of the instructor.
I am guessing that UOH is university of Ohio. I believe Ohio state has a good program, though university of michigan is probably better (it is one of the oldest in the region.) Actually one of my classmates at U of M was from Ohio and chose U of M over OSU if that means anything.

physical therapy?We Answered:
Consider not just a visual, but actual techniques a physical therapist may use to help someone who needs therapy. If you show techniques, then you are explaining better than pictures would. You can try going to the public library and finding a book with information pertaining to methods used by a physical therapist. During your presentation, consider taking volunteers from your class and demonstrating what you have learned. Explain how the technique is beneficial to the patient. Damn, I just did your project for you...
