Physical Therapy Positions

Max Said:

would u consider a full-time teaching position in the field of physical therapy? why?

We Answered:

While I enjoy teaching, I thoroughly enjoy being in the clinic. I work in the clinic full time, and teach on an adjunct position at this time. Perhaps I might reconsider when I have a family, but right now I love the practice too much to leave it. Right now, this gives me the best of both worlds.

What MOS in the US Army offers Physical therapy?

We Answered:

The Army won't train you to be a Physical Therapist. The PTs in the Army (and in other branches) go through civilian PT school (Master's prepared) and then receive a Commission to serve as an Officer in the Medical Specialist Corps. The MOS is 65B.

The closest to physical therapy you could get as an enlisted person is 68W with the N9 identifier, which basically means you are a medic who has additional training to be an assistant in physical therapy. You assist the Physical Therapists. See this link for info on the training you would get if you qualify for a slot.

Other branches have similar programs for enlisted. But understand these enlisted programs do NOT qualify you as a Physical Therapist as a civilian. You would still have to go through civilian PT school and get licensed to practice Physical Therapy. You could use your education benefits you earned through military service to help pay for PT School. Keep your grades up because PT school can be challenging to get accepted into.

Academic Positions for a Physical Therapist?

We Answered:

With a DPT and experience, you will be able to teach in a PTA program. These positions are hard to get. PTA programs generally only have 2 full time faculty and once their they tend to stay. You would need a DPT and a Phd to teach in a DPT program.

Nora Said:

What background od you need to get a position as a Physical Therapist Assitant.?

We Answered:

Usually when you start training for that field, you are required to do a certain amount of interning for that specific field. The school will help you find a place where you will basically be asked to practice what you are learning. It depends on the program itself, though. Most jobs prefer people with experience, since you will be working with other people and have constant physical contact. However, exceptions can be made, especially if you develop a good relationship with your teacher. He/she can give a great recommendation for future jobs.

Debra Said:

How do I or can I ask for pay differential for covering two positions?

We Answered:

You can certainly ask. However, unless you have a contract which stiuplates you are to do no other work than that outlined in the contract, the employer is not obligated to pay you any such differential or to even keep you on the payroll should you ask for such.
