Physical Therapy Private Practice

Reginald Said:

Horseback riding as physical therapy?

We Answered:

I've know people who used horseback riding as part of their therapy for a child with physical problems and had success with it. I believe that horses are good therapy for the soul, but you should consult a professional before going ahead with it. There could be a chance of damaging yourself more depending on your situation.

Physical Therapy!?!?!?

We Answered:

I love my job. It was recently named one of the most satisfying careers by a University of Chicago survey.

A typical day for me includes seeing about 10 patients for a variety of musculoskeletal ailments including back/neck pain, post operative orthopedic procedures, joint pain, falls/balance, etc.

I differ from the above poster a little bit in that I rarely set someone up on modalities...mostly because I think they don't really do anything. Yet, they are still prevelant in practice. I'm also fortunate enough to work in a clinic where I work one on one with patients and, therefore, don't feel compelled to "set someone up on something" while I go work with another patient. Rather, I spend most of my time educating patients, teaching them appropriate exercises and performing hands on techniques when needed. I focus on trying to teach patients how to manage their condition independently.

I do not have a private practice. Rather, I work for a hospital based outpatient clinic that is associated with a large rehabilitation hospital. I do not think I would want to own my own clinic...but that's my personal decision. I think working for a hospital clinic lets me lead a very balanced life and flexibility in my hours, benefits and lesiure time.

Good luck.

Can I get a cell phone without making a commitment for some time period?

We Answered:

Depends on where you live. Many Pre-Paid cell phone services are good in areas big enough to make it worth the cell phone companys while. I personaly have used Cingular Pre-Paid, Nextel Pre-Paid T-Mobile Pre-Paid and Verizon with a 2 year contract. The Cingular Pre-Paid had the best reception of the Pre-Paid, but was the most exspensive. Nextel (Boost Mobile) was OK. T-Mobile is very good if they provide coverage in your area. So all-in-all it just depends who gives you the best coverage in your area (you can check the coverage maps in any store that sells Pre-Paid phones). There all pretty close in price.

Does penn state have physical therapy programs?

We Answered:

No, but you can always go there for your undergraduate and then transfer as a graduate student.

Rick Said:

Do you get touched in private areas in Physical Therapy School?

We Answered:

You will have to do labs in sports bras/shorts or a swim suit, but there's is not reason for anyone to touch your breasts...OK, there MIGHT be part of the buttocks that will get touched because it's common to learn where the piriformis muscle is and you'll probably learn how to do the thigh thrust test where someone will have to put their hand underneath your sacrum (tail bone area)...stuff like this.

Good luck.
