Physical Therapy Range Of Motion

Vincent Said:

Is physical therapy needed after knee surgery?

We Answered:

most of the time physical therapy is needed after knee surgery.
the purpose is to restore range of motion and retone atrophied muscles since these will not return on their own. it takes significant effort on your part.

Physical Therapy - Effect of Body on Limping?

We Answered:

you are going to have to work really hard even if it hurts to get these joints mobile again,,,
its too bad that there was not someone there to encourage the mobility of the joint during the injury and following surgeries or maybe they did and you didnt heed the advice of professionals,,,now it is possible to get these working again and you not limping so pronounced anymore, you just have to be willing to work for it,,,,listen to absolutely everything your therapist is telling you,,,this is his field of expertise,,,also take walks,,,,go a short distance at first add when you are ready to walk farther...reward yourself at the end of each week with a special event or earrings or something like that,,,but...if you dont do the work you dont get the reward

I have chronic arthritis of the lower spine and am 42, i find that walking keeps me limber, some days it really hurts to walk but i know i will feel better tomorrow, or i might even sleep better that night no matter how bad it hurts now...so walk walk walk,,,,listen to the dr, and get rest when you can

Surgeries to give full range of motion in my knee?

We Answered:

The muscles are tight from inactivity. You really do need to just continue physical therapy; there is no "quick fix" for this.

I'm concerned that you say you are not making much progress so far. It may be a good idea to switch therapists. Your therapist should be pushing you just hard enough that you see good, steady progress. And you need to do your part. Yes, it's time consuming and frustrating and painful -- but you have to work through all of that in order to get your full range of motion back.

More surgeries are just going to make the issue worse.

Marcus Said:

Should i massage the muscles before doing range of motion therapy?

We Answered:

There is no evidence to suggest that massage with add any benefit to range of motion in this case. From a clinical stand point (ie, my opinion), it can be helpful when range of motion is limited by reflexive muscle guarding due to pain...but in the case of quadraparesis, it will not add any specific benefit to the amount of range of motion.

Clyde Said:

Will physical therapy to treat TMD actually work when there is already bone necrosis?

We Answered:

I would venture to say no...the bone is dying..unless they think the vascular supply will reestablish itself. You may or may not be a surgical candidate, but I would get the opinion of a maxilofacial surgeon right away.

Marion Said:

Had trimalleolar fracture to left leg with surgery, now right knee is bothering me.Is this related?

We Answered:

Hi - Yes, very probably.

As any osteopath will tell you, injury to one leg alters your gait and throws additional strain on the other one.
